Nice original hotel ideal for Battle of Somme Trip

Pros: Originality and period, good hospitality.
Ideal position to explore WW1 Somme battle fields. Information available of battle areas and principal sites. Enjoyed meal selection both breakfast and evening and of good standards, very pleasing.

Three Days on the Battlefields

Pros: Cost wise the hotel is always good value. What we did find this year was that the food, always good, seemed even better and the servings were huge.
Cons: There could be improvements in any hotel in the world, but for the price of the stay in this hotel, we feel we get value for money.
Location: We come to visit the battlefields, and in that respect its situated in the middle of them. The town of Albert has bars to visit in the evening.
My friends and I have been staying at this hotel on and off since 1996. We come to spend time on the battlefields and find that this is the ideal hotel to facilitate our stay. When we first came it was run by Isabelle and her husband Freddie, but unfortunately due to family circumstances they left the hotel in about 2008. Richard the proprietor, who doesn't speak English, but we don't speak French either, has updated the hotel and we always find despite the language problem between both guest and proprietor we always have a good time. As a host he is very courteous and attentive, and he has made many improvements to the hotel, especially in the breakfast area. Certainly we will stay here again, probably next year.

Well-placed both for centre of Albert and Somme.

Pros: Please see comments about the hotel in the previous section.
Cons: This hotel is very good value for money and we would not expect more for the price.
Location: Please see above comments. Lots of memorials and cemeteries to visit, Amiens is a 20 minute train ride away with its cathedral and floating gardens.
This is a traditional French hotel with plenty of character. Our room was spotlessly clean with tea and coffee making facilities - not common in France. There was free parking outside. The set menu was very good value for money and there was plenty of choice on the a la carte menu with huge portions! It was only a five minute walk into the centre of Albert and just over 10 minutes walk to the station. Most of the main memorials and cemeteries are within a 10 mile radius of Albert which is a very attractive little town with an interesting basilica, pleasant park and fascinating museum of the Somme. We would definitely stay here again.
