Cabin is perfect for 2. Located at the Base of Mt Lincoln. Convenient for access to Quandary and Democrat/Cameron/Lincoln/Bross (DeCaLiBron) - Wheeler Lake Trail is nice for an easier hike.
This is a wonderful place if you are looking to experience nature and peace. Also great for traveling to Breckenridge. Just make sure you know that it is a few miles of dirt roads (choose the appropriate car) and bring your Roku or other set up if you want any TV. Property was wonderful in all ways!
Enjoyed a few days of relaxing and peaceful time in this cute and comfortable little cabin. The host was very helpful and responded quickly to any concerns we had about road conditions etc. Adorable pictures and art of foxes throughout the cabin. We didnât get to experience seeing wildlife during our stay in late March, but read of many other visitors who did. Would reserve again happily.
This stay made our trip even more special! It was cute and functional and the best way to spend our evenings after skiing at Breckenridge! Cozy in the best of ways
we had just an amazing experience staying here although we did not get to see a fox. Everything else was top-notch. It was secluded enough, giving us a true feel of a private cabin up on the mountain. The property was true to the listing. The host is phenomenal and stayed in contact the entire trip checking in multiple times with us 10/10 would recommend we will be back!!
Great place to stay for a get away. Easy to find and was clean and well taken care of. Owner was helpful and accommodating. In winter recommend a 4x4 due to road conditions.
Such a beautiful property. Perfect location with amazing views and atmosphere. Directions were clear on navigating to the cabin and surrounding areas. Very well-kept property.
My husband and I came to the fox den with our two Golden Retrievers for a birthday getaway. The cabin itself is wonderful, updated, well appointed, cutely decorated, very clean, and cozy! The bed was SOOOOO comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was much better than expected. The fireplace added to the ambience and provided very sufficient heating. Despite staying over 2 snowstorms, we didn't have any major issues accessing the cabin. I will say we have a 4runner with excellent tires and I would heed Heather's warning about 4WD/AWD during the winter.
I would not recommend any inexperienced winter drivers stay here, as we passed several accidents and people who had gone off the road - route 9 was closed off and on by the pass as well. The roads were plowed (and someone even plowed the driveway for us, thank you!!). Our dogs had a great time in the snow and we did see a fox in the neighborhood while we were here. We ventured out to Breck, Alma, and Fairplay and enjoyed local food and fun. Heather was an AMAZING host. She was very accommodating to us in case we ended up snowed. Her response time was lightening fast and she made sure we were taken care of. I would absolutely come back here to stay and would recommend this place to others!
Quaint little cabin. Very secluded and quiet. Just a few minutes up the mountain from the sweetest little town of Alma. Folks there were lovely. There's a well stocked general store, a bakery, a candy/antique shop and a couple of stationary food trucks. Otto's is AWESOME.
The cabin was fine. We had hoped to explore the property some, but the snow banks weee still too high. Yes, it was memorial day. That is how high elevation is. We live at about 6000 ft and this 11,700 was pretty tough! It's no joke, so prepare yourself hydrate and take it easy. We had to adjust our adventures to allow us to acclimate. We are used to staying at 9-10,000 ft up, but this was noticeably harder on our bodies and our dogs. The road up to the cabin is seriously steep, with switchbacks. Just be aware. It's a very pretty area. I bet in full summer the nearby Montgomery Reservoir would be awesome but it was closed because it still had dangerous ice. Still beautiful to drive nearby. Make sure to head into Fairplay and check out South Park City and the open air museum of the ghost town, plus down the same road are some sweet little shops. The host Heather was wonderful. Great communication! Thanks for hosting our getaway.
We has a wonderful stay at The Fox Den! The cabin was clean and cozy with lots of small details that made it feel homey.
The kitchen was very well equipped, including essentials like coffee, tea, spices and condiments. We were able to make almost every meal at home.
Our pets also seemed to enjoy their stay. We have two large Golden Retrievers so had to sacrifice some floor space in the kitchen for their crates but still had plenty of space to cook. The dogs enjoyed time outside playing in the snow and sniffing around for new smells.
Heather, the host, did a great job of communicating with us and making us feel welcome.
The only reason I didnât give the location five stars was that the road to get to the property was tricky, only because of a recent snowstorm. The locals did a great job getting it cleared though so it was only a challenge for two days. If you are considering booking it for the winter, please take Heatherâs warning about needing good tires or chains seriously!
The other thing, which Heather also cautions people about, is the elevation. Please take this seriously as well! If you are in poor health or have breathing difficulties, this may not be the right place for you to stay.
Having said that, the location deserves all the other stars for being beautiful, peaceful and yet convenient! We were able to drive to Breckenridge every day to go skiing! Each day we went down, took our dogs to the dog park, then parked in the Gondoka Garage and skied!
