The house had everything we needed for a very pleasant stay. A/C. Well fitted out kitchen. We brought our own food because grocery stores are limited in this area. It is located 15-30 minutes from all the excellent birding across the border in Arizona (Portal and Paradise).
I felt so at ease in this home surrounded by distant mountains. Everything I needed was provided. Loved the quiet on the sunny porch. Then there was the bonus of John sharing the night sky with his telescope and vast knowledge. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Valley Vista Getaway provided us with everything we needed for a long weekend of hiking the Chiricahua Mountains. The VRBO listing for the property is exactly accurate. The cabin has a well-equipped kitchen so we cooked meals easily with food we brought in from Tucson. The bedroom was comfortable, and we had excellent sleeps under the dark skies. Cathy and John are responsive and amiable while also respecting our space. If you want a quiet weekend with easy access to the Chiricahuas this is your place.
We chose Valley Vista Getaway because of the observatory and it did not disappoint. The hosts were extremely welcoming and happy tp answer questions about the area. The house was well equipped, clean and confortable. Happy to recommend this rental.
My friend and I came to the area for birding in the Chiricahuas. We stayed at valley vista and it was a perfect spot for everything we wanted to do during our stay. Would definitely recommend it.
Cozy cabin convenient for exploring the Portal and Cave Creek Canyon area. Very well-equipped and comfortable. Friendly, helpful hosts. Quiet and peaceful. Perfect!
This is a well furnished, cozy little cabin with all the modern amenities. I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the quiet peaceful setting, and just being able to get away from the city for awhile.
John and his wife were very communicative and helpful.
I'll definitely stay again if I'm coming out that way,
R.
This was a great experience for my son and me. We were in the area to do some deer hunting and had the perfect place to stay and rest between hunts. Plus the hosts were amazing and gave us a Solar viewing and Star Party where we got to see the sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Pleiades, Andromeda and the moon through their telescopes. It was awesome!!! Everything was perfect!
After a whirlwind of travel starting in Southern Cal, then to Tuscon for a couple of days, where we stayed in a well-known hotel, our 2 days at Valley Vista were the best. Total relaxation and the hosts couldn't be better!
Cathy was so kind when I spoke with her on the phone and John was as well when we met. My only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer. We definitely plan to come back for a longer period of time and surely experience the star gazing the next time.
I will highly recommend to anyone I know who plans on being in the area to stay! 5 stars and 4 thumbs up from my wife and I.
Thank you, John and Cathy!!!

This little house was perfect for us. We were birding in the Portal/Cave Creek area which is less than half an hour away. We got a couple life birds while we were there! Loved the bird feeding station that we could see from the bedroom window. The view of the Milky Way is impressive!
This was a great, little place for my in- laws when they met us in Portal. We stayed in our RV using the full hookups at the house. It was so convenient to be right next door - able to coordinate plans, share meals and visit, yet with everyone having their own space as well. Cathy and Johnâs responses to our questions, their flexibility and their kindness was greatly appreciated. A private star party was a rare treat and thoroughly enjoyed.
This is a FANTASTIC little cottage with all the amenities one could need and a hidden gem for star gazers, astro photographers and birders. Wonderful hosts, beautiful wide open location, a roll off roof observatory to put your telescope in, lovely, cozy, tastefully decorated cottage. We highly recommend it!
The cabin was small but cozy and efficient. It had everything you could need including a full sized kitchen, washer and dryer, queen sized bed, maps and books. The Adlers also provided a terrific guest book with tons of information. John was VERY generous with his time and his telescope.
Cathy and John are gracious hosts. John is a top tier amateur astronomer and with his telescope in the adjacent personal observatory gave us a âtourâ of the heavens. The little house is perfectly laid out and very comfortable, spotless clean. For daytime activities Portal AZ and Cave Creek Canyon are very close by car. Memorable!
