Washed-out lordliness of a Maharaja-Palace

Pros: the food
Cons: the pool, WiFi, cleaning, kill pigeons, courtesy
Location: Bikaner, Fort of Bikaner, Rat-temple Deshnoke
We booked the hotel via Internet. We have seen the fotos of the palace with its indoor 19th century swimming pool and thought it would be a great stay. We arrived early in the morning after a horrible bus night from Pushkar and in the hotel, they didn't have a booking on our name. So we had to make many calls also to the booking agency in Germany, after we've got an result. At the counter they said, it wouldn't be their problem that their is no booking and only after ordering we received at least some black tea for new energy. For a hotel, which presents itself like the heritage of the Maharaja that was quite sobering and far away from politeness. After we resolved the problem we stood 3 nights in the Palace what was quite comfortable and safe, the breakfast was quite good and the restaurant for lunch and dinner offered very tasty dishes for acceptable prices. The pool was out of order with very dirty water in it, in the backyard only have been few canvas chairs to rest and in every part of the hotel were pigeons with their devices...also the WLAN only had some good hours...and only after cleaning the billard-room a little from its dust we were able to pocket some balls. Over all the hotel is acceptable, but with a little bit more money you can spend a real Maharaja-stay in Bikaner at the Laxmi Nivas Palace. It's sad that they don't invert more heart and money in the palace and reduce the pigeons to reestablish the lordliness of the Maharaja of Bikaner again!
