Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the grand. Staff were really friendly and the hotel is beautiful. We stayed on New Year’s Eve and they had a jazz singer performing in madeleine’s bar downstairs which was lovely for drinks before we headed out. However, there were a couple of issues. The room was very cold and no matter what temperature we set the AC, it wasn’t heating up. There was also an issue with the key cards not working for rooms so we had to keep approaching hotel staff to be let into our room. Finally, we requested late checkout, which was accepted, but half an hour before we were meant to check out a member of staff knocked on our door to tell us we needed to check out. I explained that we had requested late checkout and he was very polite and apologised for the communication issue, but I was disappointed by the disorganisation nonetheless. Regardless of these issues, we still had a great time and would stay there again.

We had an exceptional stay in a fantastic central location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the room was extremely clean. The penhaligons luxury soaps were a lovely added touch and really elevated the experience.

The hotel is nice enough but consistently let itself down with poor service. Lack of response to communications. Complimentary drinks promised but never delivered. Taking over 30 minutes to bring coffee whilst serving those who came after. And the worst part, it was clear that staff really weren’t bothered by any of this. Neither the impending Christmas closure of the presence of a famous football team are mitigating factors for paying guests. This was three star service masquerading as something else.

A truly beautiful building in a great location with period features, glamorous cabaret bar, all staff friendly and helpful. Amazingly efficient lifts! Only suggestion is that guests are advised that they should book for the Fri & Sat cabarets due to popularity. Thank you.

We booked for in advance for a planned festive shopping trip to Birmingham and chose the Grand as it was in a great location and looked wonderful. We had hoped to start our evening with a few drinks in the beautiful bar before dinner. Sadly this was not possible as the hotel only allow guests to use the bar if they’ve made a reservation. We were not made aware of this at the time of booking or when we checked in! This was a big let down as we could see the bar had available seating later in the evening because people had reserved but not arrived. I think the hotel needs to rethink this policy as you are losing customers who would otherwise have spent in the hotel bar and enjoyed the full enjoyment of the hotel setting.
