Great location - and right across the road from the tram stops which were brilliant coming every 10 minutes. The hotel is quite classy and comfortable, however it needs a lot of maintenance attention in various areas due to the age of the hotel (apparently built in 1867) - room cleanliness was ok although there were some areas (in the inner window frames which looked as if they had never been cleaned. Could not avoid seeing it when you opened up the window. Bed was very comfortable. On the occasion that we had our room "cleaned" by housekeeping, all they did was empty the rubbish bins, give us an additional toilet roll and pull up the covers on the bed - did not even move the pillows. They did not replenish the coffee sachets or water bottles or clean/vacuum the floor. Must have taken them all of 2 minutes, so a bit disappointed with that given that the hotel is one of the few along the esplanade that has class written all over it. Breakfast was very good, and the staff are working hard to make you feel welcome. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and our interactions with staff in all areas was always very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend staying here again should I ever be in the area again.

Very poor experience at the imperial. We visited as a family for my son’s birthday and were put in what felt like the last room in the hotel on the top floor at the very back of the building. The carpet was dirty, there was no hairdryer or even telephone in the room. When I complained at reception I was given a hairdryer and told I would be contacted with a voucher as compensation but nothing ever came despite emailing the manager as instructed by reception staff. Very poor as the standard was that of a bed and breakfast but was 3 times the price.

Very nice hotel old worldly but very well maintained and spotless. Everyone could not do enough for you and the food is lovely and good portions. Breakfast plenty of choice and eat what you fancy .

Very friendly staff especially in the palm restaurant. Love the buildings history. My only mild complaint is the time it takes to check in and check out but overall a very enjoyable stay.
