Stayed for two nights. Room was ok but tired. Food in the evenings was fairly good. Breakfast (eggs Benedict) was really awful and the service was diabolical. Service in the evenings wasnt good either. Don't think that staff training is probably anything that has been heard of here. Having said all that and giving credit where it's due, the evening food wasnt bad, the room was clean and all in all the stay was not expensive so as always I guess you get what you pay for. Didn't have breakfast on the second day as couldnt risk facing the same food or service again.
I've stayed at the hotel previously, it's ideally situated and the staff are very accommodating. The room is comfortable and I would stay again. The only negative point was breakfast, this was the first time I'd had breakfast here and the service was very slow. I arrived at the restaurant at 8:35am, at 9:27am I was still waiting for my food. This was not ideal, given I was meant to leave at 9:30am. If breakfast starts at 8:30am, then all food should be ready to serve from that time.
Beautiful hotel, the room was all to an exceptional standard. Sadly the service and food let it down. We were a group of 10. Most of the evening meals were good but the steak, which 2 of the party ordered was so tough it was a challenge to eat. When this was pointed out the waitress was not impressed. After that we were being rushed to finish.
In the morning we arrived at 8.30 for breakfast, the waitress in the morning was far more friendly, however, we waited over an hour for the food. The food was clearly locally sourced, sadly the bacon was over cooked and again a challenge to eat. The continental breakfast was not restocked and the orange juice and bread ran out.We heard other guests complaining as well about the breakfast arrangement. One had paid but mislaid the token and another just got fed up of waiting and left.
So dissapointing that this Beautiful place let's itself down.
I arrived early but was able to access my room straight away. I was initially told that my room still had to be paid for but I had prepaid. This was resolved quickly however. The hotel is conveniently located on a regular bus route and I took the opportunity to visit Blaenau Ffestiniog 20 minutes away. The evening meal was excellent with plenty of choice on the menu. My room was fine and extremely comfortable. Some slight traffic noise as it was at the front of the property.
Iâll start by saying the staff and service at the Oakley are excellent. The food is outstanding and generally itâs very clean and comfortable. The only thing I will say and whatâs stopped me from rating higher is that the rooms although clean are very, very dated and quite worn down in parts.
The one I was in (17) was a Deluxe Double and came to ÂŁ264 for two nights out of season at the end of February and I just didnât think it was worth it for the following reasons:
- Very dated and worn in places as mentioned
- No iron or ironing board in the room. I did get one when I asked at reception but they had to look for it and iron and board came separately. Not what I expected from a deluxe room at that price
- the furniture was just old and if youâre going to put a clock on the wall, at least make sure itâs working?
- the extractor fan in the bathroom sounds like a bag of spannerâs and directly linked to the light so if you need to use the toilet in the middle of the night youâre going to wake everyone up!
- the heating system they have running along the bottom of the walls was damaged in places and kicked up dust
- breakfast not included, this was stated upfront on the booking I just personally think it could be included given the room rate
I will say though that shower off the main was amazing!
I would have given this feedback to the reception at check out but nobody was there when I checked out so had to leave the keys with the cleaner.
Really hope it gets a refurb soon.
I'd happily return to this hotel. I enjoyed two nights dinner but would have liked to see plain yoghurt, smoked salmon and smoked haddock on the breakfast menu. Thank goodness the extractor fans turned off at night.
The hotel is conveniently located to explore the Welsh highlands, and the Welsh Highlands and Ffestiniog Railways. A good breakfast is served in the morning and there's a good food menu in the evening.
Nice place to be based for touring around this part of Wales. Food good and plentiful. Staff friendly and helpful. Building a bit run down but not too bad.
