The cabin is very nice. Clean and cozy. The deer come into the backyard every morning and afternoon, something we missed since moving to Florida. Turkeys and boars can be scene in the fields. The dirt road to get to the cabin severely needs improvement, but that isnât the property ownerâs issue. The cabin was cool on muggy days, the mattress comfy.
LEAVE Your worries behind! Let nature take you away!
The check-in procedure was seamless. I was able to contact the property manager easily. And he quickly led me to what I needed when I couldnât find it.
And the bed in the loft was so comfy. The sheets and pillows and towels were all a very nice quality.
The porch gave me great peace as I watched 8 to 9 deer walk across to feed on the deer corn the neighbor puts out.
Had I remembered to bring lighter fluid I wouldâve made a fire there was wood there for a fire.
I went for walks out in the woods and got some beautiful pictures and left my worries with the trees and the animals. Listened to the song birds. Watched deer and squirrels eat together and a very large possum visited one night!
I liked the rustic cabin it is decorated quite nicely. It made me feel very welcome and at home just the right size for one or two people or a couple with smaller children.
Very tranquil neighborhood. The mile to get to the house is a little scary jajaja and the water had a little bit of an off smell but overall it was amazing.
We truly savored our time here including deer sightings twice daily; sounds of birds waking and then settling down for the night; stars like crazy; rumor of a bobcat on the empty lot nextdoor; ample solitude, peace and quiet. There's a fairly long unmaintained one lane road that only the lowest of vehicles may experience bottoming out but it is scenic and makes you feel more and like you're in Old Florida with every curve. There's a chainlink fence in front with parking outside the fence. A few of the dozen homes in the Riverside Retreats community appear to have full-time residents who were quiet through our stay and it seems like a place where locking doors isn't necessary but don't take my word for that.
I gave less than 5 stars primary for the following issues:
the place had not been dusted recently as plenty of it was present upon checkin; not swept recently as little dead moths and beetles were many; windows were full of water marks and streaks negativity affecting the beautiful view through them (while they are up there they should sweep the large amount of leaves off the porch roof); lack of yard games/boardgames/cards; insufficient bed pillows and blankets for the number of beds. All of these were really minor issues and the place is so pleasant I really could have given 5 stars despite them.
But this potentially could have made it considerably fewer stars had it turned out differently - upon arrival (after required check-in time) there were workers working on building a dock and as they were leaving stated they would return the following day. I had not been informed of their presence prior to then. Being tired from the ride as well as excited to be there, I said ok, see you then. As I woke the next morning I realized that we did not want workers with a generator and power tools walking through the yard and making noise during our vacation so I texted Shawn the host. Shawn said they could not be rescheduled. A little later the workers arrived and I apologized for saying ok the evening before but that this was not acceptable for our visit here. They did leave and returned the next morning just before checkout time.
Very nice and secluded. Great if you are trying to get out of the city and into the woods. At least 30 dear and wild turkey walked through the property over the weekend in which we stayed. Very nice fire pit and a dock on the river. Brand new grill on a covered back porch.
