Great property in a quiet location with a well equipped kitchen. The host was responsive to our questions, and was proactive about reaching out when the previous renters let him know about a problem with a stove burner, to see if we needed any help with the same issue.
A quaint cozy lodge! The kitchen had everything I needed to whip up a few meals. Everything was clean and cozy. Definitely go to the whammy bar for dinner if you stay here! Best meals of our whole trip were from the guest chefs.
Home in Calais short walk down a path to Curtis Pond, well furnished, modern kitchen, new bathroom, clean, comfortable beds. Even a washer and dryer for your longer stays. Close to Montpelier, and many other interesting towns to visit within an hours drive. 10 minute walk to Maple Corner store that has everything you need for your stay.
The house is so cute and has a cozy feel. The kitchen and bathroom are beautifully updated. The downsides were the bathroom sink did not drain properly and black mold floated out of the drain, and the bathroom towels were extremely musty smelling. In addition, sadly, the outdoor seating was unusable as it appeared an animal had urinated on two of the cushions, and the others were wet from morning condensation. It would be helpful if they were stored in the house when not in use. None of these things, honestly, were devastating, so overall it was a very lovely stay.
This home is beautifully remodeled and decorated, and fully stocked with everything we could need. It is a large space so there was plenty of room for socializing or finding one's own personal space. We were only there for 4 nights but wished we could have stayed longer. One of the highlights for us was taking the host's paddle boards out on Curtis pond and seeing an adult loon teach their juveniles to fish.
So many things to do nearby and great restaurants and cute shops in Montpelier.
The only downside was that the house is close to the dirt road and that occasional cars drive too fast on it, but overall a beautiful setting.
I would stay there again.
We had a really nice time. The property was largely what I expected. Very comfortable and clean. There were a few minor issues, but overall, I'd recommend this property. The location is truly the best thing about it.
Our family loved our stay at the Calais home. It has extremely clean, had all the amenities you could want, and felt so cozy and homey. Our family includes 2 young children, and we felt this house was perfect for their needs, as well as ours. We hope to stay here next year as well - we loved it so much!
This house is ideal to hang out, BBQ, paddle board, swim and relax! Also good as a base for day trips to all the cute towns in the area and the excellent Breweries!! (if you are into the best craft beers in the world). Really like the cottage with excellent kitchen and dining area. Recommended for hikers and mountain biking as well!
We had a wonderful stay with our family. Property was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Host was welcoming and quick to respond to all questions and needs.
Absolutely gorgeous farmhouse in Maple Corner on Curtis Pond. Modern kitchen and bath with all the classic New England charm of a rural VT farmhouse. Easy drive (15-25 mins depending on road conditions) to town, but the Maple Corner down the road will have most everything you need or forgot! House was fully stocked with kitchen and bath necessities, games/books/toys, outdoor gear, wood+splitter, etc. Property was perfect for winter exploring and sledding. Mark was highly responsive - we even chose to extend our stay! Highly recommend for anyone who loves all of the beauty and sense of community that only rural VT can offer!
I've stayed at many VRBO properties and I can honestly say this was one of the most enjoyable. My group was in the area for a ski outing and had a fabulous time here. The photos don't do the house justice; it is super cute, homey, and very well appointed. Additionally, Mark, our host, was super communicative and welcoming.
Will definitely stay here again in the future; I can see this being a fabulous area to visit in the fall.
Wonderful location
Listing was just as described
Enjoyed the property, home well appointed and comfortable.
An easy 5 minute walk to a dock for launching kayaks or a quick drive (5 minutes) to the public boat launch and community swimming area.
Calais and East Montpelier trail system 5 minutes by car
Screened porch was wonderful for morning and evening tea
Bring plenty of mosquito repellent as itâs very buggy but not unexpected given the weather lately and the fact itâs VT on a pond with streams and springs everywhere.
Morse Farm sugar works with Creemee and lots of gifts and interesting attractions on the farm 15 minutes away along with the fantastic village of Adamant.
Walked our dog each morning to the Maple Corner Store
People in the community are fantastic
Hosts have paddle boards and kayaks for use for a few
We brought our own and paddles multiple times a day
Nesting loons with babies along with ducks, turtles, herons, beavers and all sorts of wildlife.
20 minutes to Montpelier, 1 hour to Burlington, 35 minutes to Waterbury (Ben & Jerryâs factory tour.
30 minutes to several great hikes in state forests in addition to the local trails 5 minutes away.
Hosts were responsive and property was fantastic
Highly recommend
We spent a very peaceful week at this charming farmhouse with easy access to activities and restaurants in Montpelier, Barre, Stowe, Waterbury, etc. There are several maple sugaring operations nearby with stores that are fun even in the off season. Lots of scenic roads to drive - driving the toll road up Mount Mansfield provided great views.
The house itself was very comfortable and clean, with modern bath and kitchen, but with historical touches and ambiance of the original farmhouse well preserved.
Curtis Pond is close - about a 10 minute walk through the woods, so be aware of that if you plan on bringing your own kayaks or other heavy gear that you would have to carry. But you could also drive about one mile to the public beach and launch sites on the pond, and thus avoid carrying your gear.
We just finished our stay at the cottage and what a stay it was. The home is exactly as pictured. Clean, inviting, well stocked and beyond comfortable. We had the unfortunate experience of visiting right as the floods hit Montpelier and the state was declared a state of emergency. This made venturing out and doing many of the things on our list impossible. The owner was so helpful in coming up with suggestions and offering ways around that might get us past road closures. Although unsuccessful, this home made it possible for my family to still have a good vacation. There were plenty of games and puzzles to play, the kitchen was well set up for family meals. We had the pleasure of meeting lots of locals who told us a lot of the history in the area. We might have been rained and flooded out for our stay but we could see the possibilities of a beautiful nature filled getaway.
The owners have put a lot of care into updating the house while still keeping the historic charm. The only wish we had (maybe itâs already in the future plans) is a bigger more comfortable outdoor dining/ relaxing area. The views on the stone patio were gorgeous however not inviting enough to spend extended time.
We had a lovely 3-day stay at Calais Cottage in August. The house was equipped with all necessities like linens and basic kitchen supplies, and our stay was peaceful and relaxing just as we wished it to be. The neighborhood is quaint and stunningly beautiful. We had a lovely chat with some neighbors on a long walk and learned about area interests. The only recommendation I would have is the seating arrangement in the living room, as it wasnât quite as cozy as the bedrooms and the glorious kitchen. We spent quite a bit of time on the long back porch and sitting at the kitchen table. Thanks for a lovely stay! Itâs apparent youâve put time into making this a special spot for yourselves and others to enjoy.
We had a wonderful stay at the house. Our son loved the kid-focused room and all of the adults enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. We are a family of three and our brother- and sister-in-law joined us for the week. The space was very comfortable for all of us. The location was fun to explore with so many great options for spending time outdoors swimming and hiking. Mark provides a lot of great information about the area. The convince of Montpelier and its delicious restaurants and ice cream also made the week fun. We would definitely go back!
