We have stayed at four different resorts in Cancun, all within the hotel zone. Wyndham Grand Cancun would rank as our least favorite and, in our opinion, feels closer to a 3-star property. Several guests we spoke with mentioned that before it was rebranded as Wyndham, the resort offered better food options and higher overall quality. Some even noted that staff are encouraged to write positive reviews, which might explain the higher ratings online.
Property Atmosphere and Cleanliness:
The property feels a bit dated overall. While it’s clear some upgrades have been made to the rooms, the indoor areas left much to be desired. The low ceilings and unusual layout made the interiors feel cramped. On the other hand, the outdoor facilities were enjoyable, offering several pools to suit different preferences, outdoor dining areas, food service by the pools, and a beach bar with plenty of seating. The beach itself was well-maintained, relatively free of seaweed (thanks to a morning tractor service), and swimmable during our stay in mid-April. Overall, the resort grounds were kept clean and tidy.
Staff:
The staff at the main pool were outstanding. Whisky and his team created a fun atmosphere, especially for kids and teens. Our teenager loved participating in activities like pool basketball, volleyball, and various competitions.
