Becky was absolutely amazing to work with. A hail storm with heavy rain and strong wind affected our visit but Becky communicated with us every step thru this unusual storm. A great host to rent from!!!!
I was searching for someplace unique, off the beaten path to relax and recharge. El Capitan exceed my expectations. My wife was a bit skeptical when I told her we where staying in a rail car, but she fell in love with it too. On our drive home she said to me we should have spent more time here. The rail car is well laid out and perfect for us. My wife loved the bed pillows and linens, she said it was the best sleep she had in a while. The shower was wonderful and the kitchen area was great for preparing breakfast in the morning and prepping food for the grill outside for dinner. I initially thought it strange that the grill and table and chairs were around the back, but the genius of the location became apparent the first evening when I went out to grill. The location is shaded by the late afternoon and we enjoy a mild breeze. We enjoyed the horses as they worked their way to the fence line as the day progressed. Poppy the Jack Russel was a frequent visitor daily, he is adorable. I spent most evenings out in the Adirondack chair enjoying the sunset and the cooling weather and the breeze till the stars came out. Becky the host was great with communicating useful information, and answering my questions. She really had the place ready for guests, there was a basket of snacks and some drinks in the fridge. the bathroom was stocked with just about every thing one might need if you forgot anything. The location was ideal base close to Palo Duro, Canyon and Amarillo
The boxcar is very cozy and cute! It was a quiet, rejuvenating place to rest after traveling. We all slept well, enjoyed a hot shower and the friendly dogs. There were horses and foals at the farm too (though we only observed those :) ) I think we would have loved a few more nights!
We stayed here for one night on our way home from a NM road trip. It worked quite well for us - we used the grill to cook dinner and made breakfast the next morning before we got on the road. There are friendly dogs who get more friendly when they realize the grill is being used. Bed was comfy, shower is huge, kitchen had what we needed to prep 2 meals. We didn't go the Palo Duro but we have been to the canyon before, It is a MUST see for any visitors who have time. The Panhandle-Plains Museum has paintings by Georgia O'Keefe. She taught school in Canyon and learned to love those landscapes while she lived there.
This was hands down the most unique place we stayed on our 15 day Road Trip. We both loved it. Check in was effortless. The boxcar was so clean and every little detail was thought of. We were greeted with friendly dogs and the most beautiful scenery. We enjoyed a fire and listening to the birds while watching the horses. I actually relaxed here. A storm rolled in and we sat inside and watched the lightning show from the couch next to the glass garage door. So cool. Far better than watching TV. Though that was there too if we wanted. If you get the chance to stay here. Highly recommended.
This property is absolutely as beautiful as the listing makes it seem. Lucy, the donkeys and the horses were really the stars of the show. My biggest complaint is not enough windows to look at all the beautiful scenery surrounding you!
What a fabulous find. Cute decorations, plenty of room for two, and a view to boot! Close to Palo Duro and to Buffalo Lake NWR for those who bird or hike. Friendly dogs greeted us each day, and horses were our closest neigh-bors. Becky thought of everything we might need!
We were on a road trip between Austin and Las Vegas and, unfortunately, only had 1 night to stay at EC. The place is so cool and beautifully appointed with any amenities you might need. As a host myself, I appreciated all of Beckyâs touches. She thought of everything! The sweet doggos greeted us upon our arrival, which was an awesome bonus. Sadly, it rained for much of our stay and we werenât able to sit out and enjoy the fire pit, but we will definitely be back!
I booked a stay for my husband and myself for our wedding anniversary to visit nearby Palo Duro canyon. The host was super friendly and helpful, we were surprised at how comfy and luxurious the boxcar was, I am not sure what I expected, but this blew everything out of the water. It was a fun experience and we are planning a return trip again soon. The dogs were friendly, sweet Allie made my day by hanging out with me on the back patio! I cannot recommend this place enough!
Wow! Stay here if you can! Our kids were camping at the PD canyon and this was a perfect place where we could visit them each day. Entry to the park was 8 per day per adult but worth it! Itâs 15 mins Take a right out of box car property for shorter distance to park. The dogs and horses were fun to meet. We were there mainly to shower and sleep (excellent sleep!) The place has all you need including snacks! Very clean and comfortable! Do not hesitate-book it now!
El Capitan was a perfect place to stay. Becky has amazing communication and responds quickly. We enjoyed are stay and the uniqueness of the train car. Easy to get to Canyon and easy to get to Palo Duro Canyon. The train car was very comfortable for 2 adults and 1 child. This stay will not disappoint. Lucy the Great Pyrenees was definitely and added bonus.
We were on a month long roadtrip from New York to Arizona. We came across this listing on our way back from Arizona. Unfortunately we were caught in a terrible dust storm on our way to El Capitan. So we were unable to enjoy the full beauty of the ranch, but what we did experience was a well kept place, communicative and caring host and a magnificent view of the storm from the large window El Capitan provides. This is a unique stay and I hope to stay here again minus the storm one day. The storm was over on the day we left, so we were able to make it to Palo Duro, which is a short drive from the property. I would recommend this place to family and friends
Becky was an amazing host. Very responsive and attentive. She makes you feel at home. She covers all the details. The stars at night are amazing. 5 stars !
We had an amazing stay at El Capitan. It was an excellent location near by the state park and had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The host was also great, bonus was co-host Lucy the Great Pyrenees saying hi to us every morning. We would definitely stay here again!
Fun get away in an original Boxcar. Very comfortable and relaxing. Highly recommend.
Close to Palo Duro Canyon and the cute town of Canyon with several shops and restaurants. .
El Capitan was quaint and vintage decor. Loved the amenities and all the property had to offer! Peaceful and enjoyed the stay! The host was amazing and so attentive. Less than 15 minutes to the canyon and 25 to Amarillo for the Big Texas Steakhouse. It was my husband and I and our two fur babies. We would definitely recommend if youâre heading that way ! One of a kind!!
Our host Becky provided the two of us with a unique and quiet venue for the duration of our stay. Appreciated having the refrigerator / freezer available to make ice cubes that went into our water bottles for a warm outdoor hike at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Was also grateful of the host making the boxcar functional, comfortable, and air conditioned during the warm afternoons. Enjoyed spending time with the horses and the dogs, too. Thank you for a terrific stay!
Beautiful and quiet property well away from the city lights. Nice outdoor seating to view the stars and enjoy the quiet. Comfortable bed
Host was communicative and friendly.
