My family opted to take a late summer vacation in the New Braunfels area in hopes of floating the river, enjoying Schlitterbahn, and taking a short drive to Fiesta Texas.
Our family LOVED the house right on the river! We were able to drop tubes into the rapids right behind the house and take a leisurely float all the way down to the 2nd crossing, hop out, and had a short 10min walk back to the house. Bring your tubes! (Or buy them at the convenience store)
We chased fireflies after dark, caught crawfish, tadpoles, and saw all kinds of wildlife including deer, fox, several types of fish and birds. My boys really enjoyed it.
The evenings were serene and quiet, with a cool breeze coming off the chilly river to keep the stifling heat bearable. S'mores on the outdoor firepit were a hit! (bring charcoal/wood).
The home itself had 2 bedrooms, and an additional 2 fold-out futons, with a 3rd fold-out couch. Plenty of room for our family of 4, with extras if you have a larger group. Washer and dryer on-site were nice to keep us from doing so much laundry when we got home
The furnishings were nothing fancy, but more than adequate. I'd actually prefer it to be basic as boys can be a bit wild, and I always worry about them breaking or damaging things.
With a 100° heat, and a stone home built in the 60's, A/C struggled a bit but it was as good as could be expected. We didn't spend much time in the home, anyway. It cooled off nicely late at night thru late morning.
We'll be back!
