We had a great week on North Captiva. The house and pool exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was well stocked. There were plenty of beach and bath towels. Anything you need to play in the pool or at the beach is provided. The views from the screened in porch and crow's nest were beautiful. They said that the island was packed with tourists, but we never waited for a table at a restaurant or ran into a crowd on the beach. We could walk along the undisturbed beaches collecting shells and pass very few people. Jane was extremely helpful and even picked up a few groceries for us when she went to shore during the week. We saw manatees, tortoises, lizards, and all sorts of birds. The dolphins were a little shy, so we only saw a few of them from afar. The food at Mangos and Barnacle's was fantastic. We rented a boat from Boats and Fun for a day and visited some of the other islands that were close. We had never boated before, but they were very helpful, and we managed to get where we were going and dock the boat without too much difficulty. We would highly recommend North Captiva and Manatee Haven to any family that wants to get a way from it all for a week on a peaceful, relaxing, and friendly island. Don't let the logistics of planes, land taxis, water taxis, and grocery ordering scare you off. We were a little intimidated by that at first, but as long as you follow the Swinfords detailed instructions you will be fine. It went unbelievably smoothly. Don't forget to bring bug spray though.
