Not modernized, but somewhat expected.Place was clean and lake view was a little restricted but still captivating.Bathrooms for each bedroom was the main reason for our renting of this home.Location was within walking distance for restaurants, shopping, etc.Hosts weâre responsive, 2 of the 11 bathrooms were short hand towels and wash clothes and that was resolved the following day.Lighting for the bathroom mirrors needs improvement.Apple blossom bathroom tub needs work, tub unstable when showering This home has wonderful possibilities with a little TLC.
We loved our time in Charlevoix. This big beautiful house was a good fit for our large family group, ages 1 thru 71.Pros - location is fantastic: fun beach access, beautiful views from the porch, and an easy walk to downtown. Plenty of bathrooms, and most bedrooms with queen-sized beds, which can be hard to find. We had a couple of maintenance issues that the host resolved right away, which was much appreciated. Cons - lots of small rooms, so no easy place for the whole group to gather together for meals, etc. The house is old and has its quirks, and shows some wear and tear inside. The listing says âair conditioned,â so we were surprised to find it in only 1 room (one of the 2 small kitchens) with a window unit. Luckily, the weather was not overly hot and there were fans, but a bit misleading.Overall, itâs a great old house, with a lot of history and character, in a terrific location. Would return.
We found the house to be very unique. Fun counting and locating all the 37 doors. Excellent location to town and stairs to Lake Michigan were great. There were 10 of us and we had plenty of room to gather. Having 2 main kitchens was very helpful. All had a fun experience.
This eclectic historical property is the perfect Charlevoix location and boasts plenty of room for all.
The owners/hosts could not have been more accommodating and gracious.
The gorgeous lake view, lake access and sunsets were postcard perfect. Plenty of parking for guests on the quiet street.
Needless to say we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Beautiful location - Big old house that needs some TLC
The location of this house was perfect. Easily walkable to downtown (food, shops, marina, pier etc.) and a beautiful view of Lake Michigan.
It had lots of rooms (there was 23 of us) and a bathroom for every room (one of our requirements) which meant our big family could all stay together and everyone had their own bathroom. It had 2 kitchens with helped with large meal prep and setup.
All of that said - it's still a big old house which means it comes with old house issues. Much of which were acceptable/understandable.
But there were several issues that I think could be easily resolved to make for a better stay. A couple of examples: the wallpaper was peeling in several places, 2x4 holding up one of the bathroom sinks, kitchen faucet was nearly coming apart from the sink, missing or dead light bulbs, missing or broken screens, non working electrical plugs and more.
All in all we had a great trip and the house worked for what we needed. The location was perfect and beautiful. But I think it needs some TLC to make it fully worth the cost.
We had our wedding party stay at the house for our wedding weekend. It was the absolute perfect location to be able to walk downtown or enjoy the views right from the porch. The house is old so it has it quirks but we couldnât have asked for a better place to celebrate with our friends and family.
The location was very good for our family reunion. Some suggestions. Put full screens on the upstairs windows. Too many small lake flies (looked like small mosquitoes) got in through the screen inserts to the double-hung windows - freaked out my granddaughters. The upstairs Lake Room water pressure is incredibly low, and the sink/shower need upgrading to be usable. Had to go to another room.
The house was quirky. Very old The plumbing was shaky in some bedrooms. Many beds were very uncomfortable. The refrigerator in main kitchen was broken most of the stay. Garbage was piled up in front of the house and never removed
Allison went above and beyond to help us with my daughterâs dream wedding. The wedding party stayed at the property. They did yoga by the lake at sunrise to start the wedding day. It is a beautiful location and charming house.
Charlevoix is a place I have always called my second home as both of my parents grew up there, and both sets of my grandparents live there. This is a beautiful house with lots of space! We loved that each person/couple had their own bathroom (which was important to us). Unfortunately, we were there for two funerals that we had to attend in the same weekend. In other words, it was the best place we couldâve stayed at so we could all be together through all of that. The location is perfect! Walking distance from one end of town to the other! We would definitely stay here again!
Everyone really enjoyed the historic home with its awesome location, gorgeous view of Lake Michigan and character of the house. 11 bedrooms with there own baths was great. The 2 kitchens and dining areas were really nice for everyone to spread out. Beautiful porch on the front and nice deck by the grill in the back. We wished there was a book, photos or some mention of the history of the house. It was inspiration for our 7 teenagers to create a murder mystery movie we all enjoyed. We had a couple small issues with plumbing and electrical but they were handled very quickly, all was good! Would definitely rent it again for a large group!
We were a group of 6 adults. It was a great property with plenty of rooms for privacy as well as group gatherings. If only the weather had cooperated more we had made better use of the outdoor spaces as the views were just spectacular. Walking 3 blocks to downtown and 100 feet to the end of the block to see the water and sunsets was just great.
This large home was perfect to host the family of both the bride and groom. We loved being all together, with sufficient space to relax, walk the city, and enjoy the spectacular sunsets over Lake Michigan. The place has so much character. The managers were responsive to my questions, which I appreciated. About the only negative thing I could say is water pressure got a bit low as folks were getting ready for the wedding. But there was always hot water (tankless?).
We hosted my Bachelorette party here with a group of family and friends. The location was amazing and the house was perfect! Everyone had their own bathroom, and everything felt very connected. We had so much fun!
