We had a lovely one night stay in the cottage. Great for self catering and enjoyed having stables outside where we could see the horses. Lots of space and a nice log fire to enjoy. The breakfast was delivered to the cottage at our chosen time and was really tasty.
A dream stay. Lovely cottage on a working farm just a few minutes drive from Castle Combe and Chippenham. The hosts were lovely, the cottage was warm and homely with an amazing log burning fire. Each morning, a freshly cooked breakfast is brought to your door at a time of your choosing. Would highly reccommend to all.
We stayed in the Farmhouse at Battens Farm. It was absolutely fantastic. Such a beautiful big property, plenty of space, beautiful surroundings on the farm and just a fantastic stay. Mike the owner was a wander full host, very friend and helpful, gave us some great suggestions of what to do locally. The breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay again and recommend anyone to stay here!
I'm only giving this exceptional simply because there's no higher accolade. The cottage was fantastic, the breakfast was one of the best I've had. Comfy, quiet and a home from home. Best nights sleep I've had while away.
Lovely cottage. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Super cosy and warm. Lovely views of the stables and farm. Had a fabulous breakfast delivered to our door in the morning. Piping hot and really delicious. We will be back .
Arrived really late but easy check in . Excellent hosts. Superb accommodation. Quiet and comfortable with a nice country feel. Clean and very cosy. This was a work trip but felt like a holiday. Breakfast was served on time and delicious. Will definitely book again!
The cottage was amazing rooms and corridors everywhere so comfortable. As we opened the front door we were met with horses in stables. The cottage had everything we needed. Bed was comfy and rooms warm definitely didnât want for anything. The breakfast was delivered on time and was hot. One of the best breakfast Iâve had. Only thing not on our side was the weather but an excuse to go back. I absolutely loved it
Owner Mike is friendly and service and his breakfast cooking was good.
One thing I feel can further improve is, when we arrived at the hotel around 1700hrs it was already total darkness as we are travelling in winter Dec 2024.
Mike should install a lamp by the sign board where the instructions for the guests, to guide the guests to the instructionâs board, as the winter darkness make it challenging for us.
He should also change the blackboard to others board as the chalk on the blackboard fade when we arrived, making it hard for us to read.
Other than this, all is good, a nice place to stay and experience.
Stayed here for 2 nights, enjoyed every second of it.
Such a peaceful and relaxing environment. The building was clean and welcoming, upon arrival milk and butter were left in the fridge for us- very cute touch. Secluded outside area outside the cottage which was lovely to enjoy the fresh air in the evenings.
TV and WiFi both available in the cottage, daughter was very happy about this but surprisingly found herself not using her phone or iPad much at all! She was happy to watch the horses and enjoy being outside instead!
The owner Mike was very friendly, gave us advice and recommendations when needed but left us alone for the most part which we personally like.
The breakfast was delivered fresh each morning, what an amazing breakfast it was too.
Would very happily go and stay again
The property was very big, heating wasnât sufficient enough to get the property warm, very noisy floor boards and next door sounded like they were coming through our cottage there was no wash caddyâs in the showers, wasnât enough choice of tea coffee no milk not enough light outside insufficient kindling and paper to light the wood burner and one choice of breakfast would be good to offer cereal
Check in was non existent. When I turned up, there was a sign that had my name on it telling us were to go. Door was open with details on a table. No staff around to make payment for the stay. Farmhouse itself was nice, however dated. The photos on Expedia need to be updated to show what it is actually like. Kitchen was clean and ample for our stay. Downstairs bathroom is what we used and hot water worked fine however things needed some maintenance. The lounge area was comfortable but old fashioned. The grounds of the property were lovely. Garden was maintained very nicely and property overlooked the fields where the horses were. No cows were about like the photos show. We got the see lots of British wildlife which made my daughter happy. Upstairs of the property I did not like at all. The layout was strange, walk up the stairs to a very small bedroom on the right which looks like a cupboard, then a large room with double bed on the left. You have to walk through this room, to go down a strange corridor to get to a 3rd bedroom which has a long hallway down to a random bedroom to the side and a bathroom and toilet. I found the top part of the house creepy. We stayed in June and it was so cold in the house. There was no instructions on how to turn the heating on. Not sure if this place is haunted but strange things happened during the night which really scared me. Breakfast was delicious and delivered to our door on time we had requested.
This place was the perfect spot. We all live in a city and couldnât be more excited to stay at such a wonderful little farmhouse. The English countryside is gorgeous and the farmhouse letâs you see it right outside of your window. The space is clean and had everything we needed, a home away from home, with lots of rooms. The breakfast was delicious!! We cannot wait to find a reason to go back.
Business Trip
Accommodation was very spacious, comfy and clean. Location is rural and quiet but close enough to Chippenham to get essentials and necessities.
Will be booking again when I am down that way later in the year.
Great place. Very relaxing and really liked the wood burner - plenty of wood provided. Excellent breakfast delivered to the door. Even managed a bit of tennis even though it was the middle of December.
Cottage was so filthy we did not stay. Cottage owner did not offer to have the cottage cleaned for us as she was having her hair done. There is absolutely no reception sign so we had no idea who to find to let us in. luckily I bumped into another guest who told me where to find the owner. I could not find a microwave anywhere in the cottage which was important as we had bought a microwave dinner for tea that night. The milk that was left for our arrival was dated the 14th of June and we checked in on the 21st. The freezer was absolutely full of God knows what and some packets were opened so itâs unclear whether it was meant for us or left by last guests. As we have been shut down for months there is no excuse for the kind of utter filth we found in this cottage. It was not an isolated incident some of the stuff was months and months old. No one is checking the cleaner. We found and photographed- Dirty mugs inside and out, absolutely filthy cooker hob, hood and grill still full of food and grease, blood on unironed bedding, food on sofas, brown sinks. Teapot with about 2 inches of dirty water still inside and dirty outside, toaster not been touched. Toilet pedestal dirty. Extractor fan dirty. Lampshades filthy. Very old and tired sofas. Wood burner but no logs. To mention just a few. I cannot decide if this is a business that is in trouble or the owner simply has no idea what sheâs doing. I chose this through Expedia because it was rated 4.7 out of 5. How , god knows.
