We are so glad we stayed here. These two units open up to each other, and although there isn't a full kitchen like a condo would have, there is a nice kitchenette. Staying up on the mountain was great because we really enjoyed the amenities up there and especially Jose's outdoor bar right at the bottom of the slopes. Had we stayed in town, we may not have enjoyed the mountain as much, yet by driving into town, we were able to enjoy the town as much as we desired. So, for us this was the perfect location. Plus, the town is only 5 minutes away. Crested Butte is such a beautiful place!
Great place to stay .... close to bus stop. Not too far from ski lift. And with ski valet, even better. Room is close to stairs so very convenient with a pet.
Great communication from Don, and we had everything that we needed to enjoy our time in Crested Butte. We loved that we are able to bring our dog. Great location.
Great location, responsive property managers & affordable on mountain lodging
We've stayed at the Grand Lodge several times on the 'hotel' side. The pool & hot tub, access to the town bus, and access to Gothic & beyond & affordable rates bring us back to this location. This unit worked well for us. It was clean, well stocked & helpful to be near the stairs for trips outside for the dog.
Although the property seemed pretty busy based on cars in the lot, it was quiet.
Don & Matt are responsive and address any questions or requests promptly.
This was a great place to stay for skiing. It is a short walk to the lifts and easy to access the bus into town.
The lodge is very popular with other skiers, so the only negatives were what goes hand in hand with full accomodations: sometimes slow WiFi in the evenings and a crowded hot tub. It was nice that the units are at the end of the hall, so it wasn't noisy.
I would definitely stay here again.
Booking was very easyâinformation prior to arriving very accurate. Seemed silly we had to wait to check-in at 4pm not even 3:58. However was made aware of this and did expect it. Property manager very nice and made arrangements for anything we needed. Furnishings very worn need replacing.
The set up of the rooms was perfect for two kids and two adults. Plenty of room for more people. The location could not be much better. We were a short walk to everywhere we needed to go. We were less than 50 yards from the town bus stop which we used almost every evening for dinner and shopping. The kids loved the swimming pool and we liked the hot tub.
Very comfortable room. Great location. Does not have housekeeping or other amenities you get when booking through the central reservations, however the super reasonable price more than makes up for this.
We loved our 2 bedroom unit! Space and privacy for everyone. Prime location at the base of the mountain (maybe 100 yards to the lift line!) and the free shuttle to town was just steps from the front door. The units were very clean - even the carpets looked and smelled clean. The resort kitchen has many amenities: Kuerig-type coffee maker, regular coffee pot, crock pot, toaster, pots & pans, dishes, wine glasses, etc. It's BYOC, so be sure to bring your favorite coffee flavors. Really made for an easy and affordable vacation. Also, the tap water was the cleanest, best-tasting water I have ever had! No need to fill the landfills with plastic bottles around here. Everyone enjoyed time in the large pool/hot tub apres ski. There was a restaurant in the lodge. We didn't eat there, but it sure smelled good. Kind of like a sports bar, with TVs, fireplace and pool table. We looked at other more expensive condos, but this is hands-down the best value out there. Clean, location, amenities, no resort/parking fees! The property manager and owner were very helpful and easy to work with. All the instructions (check-in/out, housekeeping, maintenance) were provided via email before we left home. We'll be back for sure and looking forward to our next stay here!
Economical Choice with good layout for families with children
I wish there was a 2 plus star rating or a 3 star minus- that's where I would rate this place. Somewhere in there. A 3 in mind is "meets expectations" and this place did check some of those boxes but not all. Let me explain...
Pros:
-Close to the base area
-Corner location provides less foot traffic and decent view from a select group of windows
-Located within a lodge
-Laundromat down the hall
-Layout provides traveling families with children privacy- room for the kids is adjoined and you can shut the door for privacy
-small fridge for cheese, milk, etc.
-Nice shower heads
-TV with cable
-towels
-toilet paper
-cheap
Cons:
-Dated interior
-Stained carpet; do I have allergies from the trees outside or this dirty carpet feeling
-Dirty curtains that are supposed to be white or off white perhaps but are now gray/brown
-Complete and total mystery on how to remove the trash from the room. I can't stress this enough. We contacted both the hotel manager and this owner for assistance as we simply wanted to not have garbage neither in our room or in the hallway. This kicked off numerous back and forth calls, texts, messages. Total miscommunication and then a messaged accusation that we had the hotel staff "clean our rooms". I can assure you that the only people who cleaned that room were us. A hand written sign was then placed on the outside trash bin that said "cardboard only". I had a toddler with me who produces enough trash in dirty diapers alone to sink the titanic and literally zero assistance from anyone on how to dispose of the trash. I had to lug the trash bags outside and wander around to look for a bin. Meanwhile, everyday the hotel's cleaning staff would literally park their commercial trash bin cart right outside our door and not touch the trash. It remains to be one of the great mysteries of my life.
-The pool is a complete dumpster fire with too many people and a very small space. There was some sort of family reunion going on and the adults were launching middle school aged children into orbit in order to make a big splash. All adults or small children trying to enjoy a nice afternoon by the pool were thrust into "Splashtown". It was ridiculous. This went on everyday. Also, tons of kids in the hot tub.
-Restaurant downstairs closed for lunch/dinner. Only open for breakfast.
Would I stay here again? No.
Should you stay here? Sure. But ask about the trash and cleaning policy/procedure
Lot's of options in CB & this is an economical one
Pros -
Very close to everything - bus route is just outside door, lifts are 3 min walk, restaurants, etc.
Woodsons Grille in lobby is good and convenient - don't have to venture outside to eat
Sauna was nice. We did hot tub once but too many little kiddos in there
Tandem rooms was good with our two older boys
Beds were comfortable
End units so very little outside foot traffic
Humidifiers in room was nice
Friendly Staff
Cons -
Found reminders of previous guests in room under bed - underwear, lotion bottle and other items
Not once were the rooms cleaned while we were there (6 nights). We did see the cleaning crew on day two and told them not to clean that day and just swapped out towels. We took out our own trash and never saw them again.
Hot water only at night....luke warm during day
Wifi was bad but probably because these are end units and on far away from main lobby
Room temp was hard to get right...always hot in bedroom but cold in TV room
Smoke detector was missing in one room
One room had view of West Elk Mtn's the other room had a view of the garbage dumpster
Furniture was a little dated
Humidifiers worked on and off
Overall it was a good value for two rooms during Christmas Holiday Season and being so close to lifts. If we go back, I would start my search elsewhere first but wouldn't totally count Grand Lodge out.
Excellent location at the ski resort, well equipped rooms. we were able to cook our own food. We did bring our own small BBQ for the parking lot. Will definitely stay again
