"We stayed at this hotel for six nights and overall we were very satisfied with our experience. We booked and paid through Expedia, and the check-in process was smooth and quick. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and a cold towel, which was a very nice and thoughtful gesture after a long journey. The rooms were comfortable and in good condition. They were clean and well maintained, and considering local standards in Sri Lanka, the level of cleanliness was absolutely fine. Some minor renovation or refreshing could make the rooms even better, but this did not affect our stay in any negative way. The food selection was excellent, with a wide variety of dishes, and everything we tried was delicious. Both breakfast and dinner offered plenty of choices, and we always found something we really enjoyed. What made our stay truly pleasant was the staff. Everyone was very kind and friendly, from the restaurant team during breakfast and dinner to the room attendants and the staff at the pool towel desk. We always felt welcome and well taken care of. Overall, we had a wonderful time here and would gladly return in the future. Thank you to the whole team for making our stay so enjoyable!"

"Dieses Hotel ist eine massentouristische Katastrophe und eine Beleidigung für die atemberaubende Gastfreundschaft und Kultur Sri Lankas. Wenn Sie ein authentisches Erlebnis suchen oder einfach nur einen erholsamen Urlaub verbringen möchten, meiden Sie das RIU Sri Lanka unbedingt. Es handelt sich hierbei um eine billige, austauschbare Formel, die ohne jegliche Rücksicht auf lokale Kultur oder Standards an einen schönen Strand geklatscht wurde. Das RIU Sri Lanka hat fast nichts mit Sri Lanka zu tun. Es ist eine gigantische Betonburg. Die Architektur ist steril, die Atmosphäre laut und das kulinarische Angebot ist eine generische internationale Ansammlung, die den Reichtum der sri-lankischen Küche in vielerlei Hinsicht ignoriert. Es ist bedauerlich, einen solch wunderschönen Ort mit einer Einrichtung zu verschandeln, die keinerlei lokale Seele besitzt. Für ein Hotel, das sich stolz mit fünf Sternen schmückt, ist das zur Verfügung gestellte Fitnessstudio eine Farce. Die Ausstattung ist unterirdisch und inakzeptabel: Die Geräte sind veraltet, die Auswahl ist minimal und die Wartung scheint ein Fremdwort zu sein. Es ist eng, oft überfüllt und bietet kaum die Möglichkeit für ein ernsthaftes oder abwechslungsreiches Training. Dieses „Gym“ ist lediglich ein Beispiel dafür, dass das Hotel nur oberflächlich einen Luxusanspruch erhebt, aber bei den Service-Details massiv spart. Was diesen Aufenthalt aber wirklich unerträglich macht, ist das völlig unzivilisierte Verhalten vieler Gäste"
