Great location less than10 minutes from Durham, so the perfect base without the price tag of Durham hotels.
The staff where friendly and welcoming.
The cooked breakfast was very tasty and plentiful.
We did not try the dinner options, but it's a lovely, friendly pub.
Our room was a great size and the bed was comfy with a lovely feather duvet.
Would definetly stay again.

The best compliment I can give is that we will be back again. What really stood out apart from the comfy rooms and fantastic breakfast was how helpful and willing the staff were to rectify any concerns or issues.
Old country pub. Facilities poor. Unfortunately the noise of a live singer and pub patrons until very late kept my wife awake.
Good breakfast and staff were pleasant.
Arranged to pay on arrival which was more expensive to book since i booked a room for a colleague and we wanted to pay for own rooms, the hotel took payment prior to arrival and it has been a nightmare getting this straight. This is 6 rooms above a pub not a hotel, strict checkout at 11am and must leave premises at that time no reception or front desk. The room was dated, had no desk and the shower had several steps to enter which are dangerous when the floor is wet. We were charged ÂŁ160 per room which i would say is ÂŁ100 too much. The fact they take payment before you've seen the room indicates they know they are overcharging for what is on offer.
Good location to setoff from - rooms at the top of VERY steep stairs - not recomnended for anyone with disability - very tired Pub b&b - room needs modernising - taps dripping all night - Staff very friendly and good food
Top room with sloping roof and low beams was very comfortable, if you know how to avoid walking into them. Great bed, spotlessly clean. Worth knowing dinner service on sunday finishes at 6pm.
I had a lovely stay, the room was cosy and comfortable, and all staff I spoke to was very nice, down to earth, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was really well cooked and tasty.
The only feedback I have is that it was quite dusty on the floor between the bed and wall, and on the top of the headboard.
The electric shower was as electric showers are; functional but not super efficient.
I'll stress though that I did really enjoy my stay and would definitely stay again.
We stopped here on our way to and from a funeral. We were greeted warmly by the customers and by Claire, who apparently running The Avenue on a temporary basis. She looked after us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The food was excellent and good value for money. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though possibly need a bit of updating. We would stay again as it was one of. the friendliest pubs we have ever stayed in.Thanks to the clientele and especially Claire, ten out of ten.
Staff were friendly and welcoming - breakfast needed a few more options than just cooked and the muffin wasn't great. Having said that everything else was good and comfortable so no real complaints.
