The location is perfect. Just to the south of Edinburgh, within easy reach of interesting places such as Rosslyn & Stirling.A long, tree-lined road leads up to the cottages. The cottage itself was clean, with everything you could need to make your stay comfortable. We took the tour of the house, given by Henrietta and her mother who filled it with many personal anecdotes and observations. Much better than a dry talk from someone with no connection to the family. My favourite room, the library. I would love a room like that. The grounds of the estate are also worth walking around, with the Sunken Garden being particularly nice.Overall a perfect place for a relaxing break away from everything.
A bit disappointed in some aspects of housekeeping ie., oven needed cleaned, some crockery needed washed, toaster had a lot of crumbs on tray, vac cleaner brush head full of dog hairs, outside front door mat very dirty. We groomed our dogs everyday after exercise to keep the cottage clean and had crates for them to sleep in at night
Really enjoyed the location and the history of the cottage. I only stayed for three nights. Should have stayed longer. I liked the property. Lots of history there. Much more fun than a hotel. The host, Henrietta, communicated well.
Lovely place and nice and quiet to get a good nights sleep. It was perfect for the 3 of us as we were really using it to sleep as we travelled into Edinburgh which was quite close, only 30 minutes by train and the drive into town was quick to get to the train. Well located in that regard. Thank you!!!
I was looking for a quiet country cottage near Edinburgh that would give us an opportunity to explore Lothian and the Borderlands - and we found it!
Our two room place had a quaint, old world feel but was full of modern conveniences and hospitality. It was great to have a large kitchen, a living-dining area and two bedrooms, one upstairs, one down with the option of a hot bath upstairs. The location is very quiet and calm, 1 mile off the main roadways into Gorebridge. We used this comfortable base to launch into several fun day excursions to the Scottish coast and fascinating local attractions. Henrietta dropped by on our first night to check to see if all was as expect; I appreciated the caring touch from her.
Beautiful cottage and estate. Perfect for relaxing. Plenty to see and do as Edinburgh City is very close. Very welcoming and excellent communication with the host.
Full of anticipation we started our journey to Gorebridge. The driveway to the cottage is absolutely beautiful. The cottage itself has a cozy vintage look in a quiet location. Exactly what we were looking for. The fireplace was already prepared for the first time using it. We had a very nice, comfortable time here. What I need to criticise is the kitchen, which disappointed me somehow. In the pictures it looks quite modern and well equipped. Unfortunately, the kitchen furniture is worn and getting old. The dishes are limited, which means that I had to rinse them several times because otherwise there wouldnât have been enough. There were no lids for the pots. The cleanliness in the cottage is good according to the circumstances.
Lovely setting in grounds of Arniston house. Very pretty walks on doorstep around estate, easy to have dog off lead as so quiet. Very comfortable accommodation, everything we needed. Easy access to Edinburgh and east Lothian, hopefully weâll be back to explore pentland hills next time. Henrietta very helpful host
