Bugs everywhere. They had a sign posted apologizing for a cricket infestation, but there were other crawling and flying bugs, as well. Room was not clean, and stank, Guest laundry did not work. Very sub-par for a Holiday Inn.

Even though I had my reservation confirmation number, I still had to fill out a form, which slowed down the process. The service dog tag was not enough. I had to show the service dog license with a picture, and they made a copy of it. I had never had to do this before. My credit card was immediately charged an incidental deposit. This was a Saturday visit, and as of Tuesday of the following week, it has not been credited back to the credit card. It should take as much time to return a deposit as it does to charge it to a customer's credit card.

Staff Deserve 5 Stars/ Hotel Itself Does Not

The staff at this Holiday Inn Express were absolutely wonderful: kind, attentive, and quick to respond when issues arose. Unfortunately, the condition of the hotel itself left much to be desired. When we checked in late at night, I discovered the next morning that the shower in our room was in an unacceptable state of cleanliness. I had to wear flip-flops just to shower. I immediately reported it, shared photos I took, and the maintenance staff quickly confirmed the problem and moved us to a different room. The second room was much cleaner, but it had a very strong, unpleasant odor. It was like damp, molding socks that had been aged for years. While I chose not to complain again since the room appeared clean, the smell was overwhelming and clearly points to a deeper issue. The carpets or AC units on the third floor may need a thorough cleaning and inspection.Maybe dehumidifiers? Overall, I gave three stars because the staff did everything they could to make our stay better, but the property itself is in need of serious attention. I nearly booked another hotel for our last night despite already having paid, which is not something I’ve ever considered at a Holiday Inn Express before.

Maintenance Maintenance Maintenance

This place needs Maintenance. Elevator was broken, so we had to use stairs. Then there is very luttle parking in front and none on one end of the building so most is at the other end and their door at that end had a broken key card reader so you couldn't come in there. The breakfast/lobby area had some kind of ceiling water damage all across the back of it so there was a wall of clear plastic hanging down. Hotel was reasonably clean but having to use the stairs caused me to notice they could have been better including either grime or buildup of some kind on the stainless steel door handles. I spent the extra $40 per night for 2 nights to stay here compared to the other option in Elgin only to find these issues. I never leave reviews on hotels but made an exception. The staff during our stay were fine. Just the maintenance issues.

It was okay. The pool area was super dirty and the ac in the room was dripping water so there was a terrible smell, as the water was accumulating under the carpet as the water was dripping. Breakfast was okay, bread was hard as a rock.
