We did not expect to check in late in the evening (11pm...). Nobody was at the front desk at this hour and we were unable to phone the number. We were on the curb feeling a bit hopeless! We rang a bell and 10 minutes later the owner came to our rescue. All was good in the end and the owner was very kind, but it was a stressful 10 minutes!
Little family business in a small village. The owner wants to create something good for his community.
(I stayed in a dorm, not in a studio) Probably the best hostel I have ever stayed in. Of course Eyrarbakki is a small village and there is almost nothing there apart from a petrol station that sells a little food, but when you choose such a place you do it for a reason : calm, peace, nature, remoteness. Yet there is a free bus (Arborgar bus) that allows you to go to Selfoss ; the bus stop is right outside the hostel. The hostel itself is very calm, very clean and very well equipped. Fully equipped kitchen, large living-room. The bedrooms are really large, contrary to many other hostels. Mattresses are comfortable. There is a locker under the bed. No need for a face mask to sleep in the summer because there are really opaque curtains. The bathroom is large and there is a hair drier. Bathroom cubicled have shower gel and shampoo. And the receptionist is very nice. I really recommend this hostel !
