Pros: Beautiful views. The beds felt nice. The wood burning stove was awesome.
Cons: Tiny roads leading to up to the cabin that havenât been maintained at all. The sides of the roads were broken and chipped off which could lead to your car falling over the mountain. No guard rails. No cell reception for 30 miles. No food or restaurants for 45 minutes. They have a restaurant at the bottom of the mountain but itâs only open for a few hours on Friday night and a few hours Saturday and Sunday morning . If it snows while youâre there youâre basically stuck even with 4 wheel drive because of the already crappy roads covered in snow making it hard to see where the drop offs are.
I always come in and give the place I stay a cleaning before I put my things away. The blanket was in a ball on the couch, Iâm assuming from the last renters. The counter tops in the kitchen were brown when I wiped them down, which I had to do several times before they werenât brown anymore. Left over open condiments were left inside of the fridge.
Each night stink bugs would crawl on you as you watched tv in the living room.
The hot tub had so much chlorine in it that I itched for hours after getting out, finally having to take Benadryl to get relief. The hot tub cover looked like it was held together by tape. As soon as you turn on the jetâs the heater stops working, so it gets cold quickly. Trash was floating in the hot tub with no way to get it out other than your hands, it doesnât help with the small dirt from the bottom that floats and sticks on you while youâre in the hot tub.
Thatâs my honest review. I wouldnât stay here again
Had a wonderful time at Leatherwood. Beautiful views and very quiet. You have neighboring homes but you would never know it while being on the property. I would recommend leaving early to make any particular dinner plans or just take enough food for all your meals. Takes about 45 minutes to get to Boone or Blowing rock. One other thing I would mention is that this house, however clean on the inside, definitely needs some outside love. Gutters were full and overflowing, Plants growing out of them in places. With this being a timber frame type house leaving the gutters like that will most assuredly lead to rot and leaks. Would definitely recommend this property to others though. Beautiful.
We escaped the hot summer COVID filled Florida beaches and headed for a cool secluded mountain retreat. It was marvelous! The house is cute and comfortable and we especially loved sitting out on the porch and watching the mountain mist. Great sunset views from the hot tub. A trip into Blowing Rock and a stop at the Amish Bread store and produce stand produced some wonderful corn on the cob, fresh blackberries and peach pound cake. Also took a day trip to Asheville and found the audio tour of the Biltmore very well done and very well socially distanced, perhaps better than at normal crowded non-COVID times! Also enjoyed hiking the meadow and across the ridge in Daniel Boone. Wish we had had more time away! Will definitely try to come back in the fall.
The medium / long range view from the deck cannot be beat. Tons of space both indoor and outdoor. Nice large hot tub, well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and plenty of space. Two very comfortable living rooms. Check-in and check-out was very easy from the front office. Only ding against this place is that the trek to the cabin is a bit long and can be confusing (even with directions) once on the Leatherwood property, but it's a small price to pay for the privacy and view. We will be back!
