Nice B&B with very friendly staff. No on-site dining other than (very good) breakfast but several pubs within a very short stroll - 1 to 2 minutes and Yorkshire coast town Filey just 3 miles drive away. Also a very good distillery with excellent cafe on the edge of the village
We booked in for one night as we were visiting Filey for a family event. It was a short drive from Filey to the B&B. The place itself is set on the street in the town near some pubs and local shop etc. which is convenient as there is no lunch/dinner service. Parking is on street and we were able to park right outside without any problem.
We had a very friendly check in, we did the online check in before arriving so it was all super easy. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly.
Our room was a family room which was quite remarkably spacious. The photos on the listing make it look quite square but its a long room with the single bed at one end separated from the double bed by an area with a sofa, TV etc which also has a small desk/dressing table. So theres plenty of space. There is a decent sized shower room as well.
I was a little concerned that the room we had was ground floor and faced right onto the street, but the area is quiet and the double glazing very efficient so we were not bothered by noise from the street at all. As an older "heritage" type building there is some internal noise so you can hear other guests in the adjoining rooms a bit.
There is an "honesty bar" which has a small selection of canned beers, cider, softs and bottles of wine. This is very reasonably priced.
We had breakfast on the morning of departure, I had a very nice English breakfast and this was filling enough to see me through to tea time! Continental type breakfast is also offered.
The hosts, Chris and Julie were very personable and went out of their way to connect with guests in order to make them feel welcome. The rooms were comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was un-rushed and filling.
Had some issues which I meant we were really late in arriving but were made to feel it really wasn't an issue. Full breakfast was great and the general feel of the place was that everywhere was really fresh and clean. We had a twin room and the beds were super comfy and our hosts were very attentive to all our needs
Staff really friendly and helpful. Our room had everything we needed, WiFi charging, plenty of plug sockets, ironing board, hairdryer etc.
Breakfast was excellent too. We would definitely come back again.
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night on Friday 14th June. We stayed in the last room that was available room 5 which was very nice. Chris & Julie were very kind and allowed us to check in early. The hosts also gave us some good tips about the local pubs and restaurants in Hunmanby including a party on the opening night at the nearby newly refurbished White Swan... we went to this and had a superb night so thanks for that Chris & Julie ! Our room had a really good shower and had all the facilities that we needed. Everything was very clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast the next day was also excellent. We can thoroughly recommend the Southgate B & B and wouldn't hesitate to stay again when next visiting Filey or Hunmanby
We had a fantastic stay, Chris and Julie have a wonderful b&b with everything you would want. Place for bike to be locked up safe. Lovely cooked breakfast too.
What a lovely place to stay. Was warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our room, which was large, comfortable, welcoming and clean. The guest house does not have residents parking, but there is safe parking facilities at the side of the accommodation and had absolutely no issues with leaving my car there.
The breakfast / dining room is cosy and the breakfast was very nice as well.
Hunmanby is such a nice little village and is around 3 or 4 miles outside of Filey, so was a good base to use whilst exploring the area.
The bakers shop next door to the guest house is well worth a visit. Everything looked rustic and very, very tempting.
Thank you so much to Chris and his wife looking after us.
