A gem on the southern Kona coast

If you are looking for a relaxing home base near Kona, highly recommend this condo. The resort is small and quiet, but had several activities to keep our kids busy during downtime. A local grocery store and restaurants are essentially across the street and had everything we needed. We did day trips to the Kohala coast, Volcano, and the southern coast, which required some longer driving from this location, but that allowed us to see most of the island during our few days. The view of the bay from the covered lanai while having breakfast with the many tropical birds was perfect. A few helpful notes: the angle of the condo is great for watching schools of tangs swim in and out, but not good for sunsets. There is a public access trail to the water steps away from the resort entrance and very close to the condo. Very little sand, but a nice, semi-private place for a morning dip or snorkeling.

Beautiful resort — beautiful condo

Wonderful week at Kanaloa at Kona. Resort is very nice. Enjoyed sunsets at the ocean pool and the walkway along the shore. Grounds are lush and very well kept; the birds are wonderful. Staff were all great. Condo was very comfortable. Lovely view, very quiet, beautifully furnished. Lanai overlooks a small beach area/cove. My only negative comment is the a/c: daily usage fee and the a/c was cumbersome to use. After our late night check-in, we spent ~20 min trying to get the a/c units/remotes to work and then realized we needed a master key for the system, which the security guard found for us
. Then we found that the a/c units were governed by a timer in the hallway that could only be set for up to 4-hrs max so the a/c units all shut off halfway through the night
 It was ok once we adjusted to it. All and all a great stay. I would stay at that resort and that unit again.

GREAT view but NOT accurate interior photos posted on VRBO

The view from the lanai was AMAZING! However there were several issues with the representation of the unit on VRBO. Which if the listing been accurate I would not have booked this unit. Since pictures & description are all the customers have to go on when booking these properties I found myself feeling pretty deceived. On VRBO there is no mention that as soon as you enter the front door the only option is to climb 16 stairs to the living quarters. Which if I would have known that I would not have booked this unit because of the people that I was staying at the property with. Pictures of the living room on the VRBO listing shows a cloth sofa and loveseat however there was a bamboo framed couch with several bamboo framed chairs, which is not warm and welcoming to me and for my style of vacationing I want to feel comfortable in the unit that I am renting while on vacation. The ice maker in the refrigerator wasn't working when we arrived to the property (which I fixed), the dishwasher had a glitch also with the settings on the touch screen area (which I also fixed). The clothes dryer would error out (E64) and stop during the drying cycle. I did notify the front desk about the dryer and the part would need to be ordered (but would arrive after we left). There were several light bulbs out in the bathrooms, which we notified the front desk about & they came to fix those. The TV in the living room wouldn't connect to the internet which the front desk was notified about the day after we arrived and they told us they talk to the property owners and get back with us the next week however we never heard anything back from anyone on the TV & it still didn't connect to the internet when we left 12 days later. The night before we left I wanted to utilize the soaking tub in the master bathroom, the drain plug wouldn't seal so the water would drain from the tub just as fast as the water filling it up. I feel that if the cleaning crew would have gone through every room and turned on appliances and lights during the cleaning process the light bulbs, dishwasher, ice maker, soaking tub & TV would have been caught during that process. The unit itself I didn't have any issue with cleanliness at all other than the above issues. I personally would not have even booked the property if the pictures & description had been accurate on the listing. In my future Hawaii vacations when I find properties that are managed by Castle, they won't be booked by me.
