We stayed at this dar for one night. The welcome was very friendly and we were given every assistance whenever we needed anything, even when buying a carpet ;-) What we didn't know beforehand was that this is a listed dar, which means that only limited structural alterations may be made. This is great, as it means you can see and explore the dar in its original form. However, it also meant that the shower was not in the room but in another room. Please note: if you are arriving by car, check with the Dar beforehand where to go, otherwise it will be tight and you will need help turning around or will have to reverse out again.
This is a unique stay so important to know what you are getting yourself into. The house is a beautiful old space so think of it as staying in a typical historic Kairouan home. Our room is on the first floor and the shower was separate in a room across the small courtyard. The door does not fully close or lock. Nobody else was in the first floor while we were (there were only 3-4 rooms), but the owner and her sister were in the upstairs section. It feels more like an airbnb with breakfast. When you arrive the host comes out to show you where to park (it is not in the same building) and also serves tea and delicious makroud with typical warm Tunisian hospitality. Breakfast was delicious in a dining room. I saw pictures of a rooftop but we never went to it or were told about it so I donât know if it was open when we got there - I was disappointed. The owner is very nice but if you need her you need to ring the bell and sheâs not always there. We didnât have a key to our room. I also wish she had told us more about the house (though I also didnât ask - but she didnât seem inclined to linger). Soap and shampoo was just some bottles that were half used. However, the price was not high and the beds were comfortable, room was clean, location and parking convenient. and owner was friendly. In the end it was still a unique experience to stay in such a beautiful home and eat a homemade Tunisian breakfast, and the price was reasonable. Just donât expect it to be a hotel experience.
The host have been more than friendly during our stay. We arrived late and were warmly welcomed. When we had an accident the Lady host was alway at our side, organizing everything and being with us in hospital all the time. This was fabulous and we could feel the warmth of this people. A good house, with good food and good bed you can find at many places in the world. A hotel were you find people with a pure heart and helping you 100% when you feel lost is not easy to find. Here we found this wonderful place. Thank you. Our best wished will always be with you.
A traditional house in the middle of the city really feels like you are staying in a museum.
Hotel staffs were really freely and accommodating even though my booking was last minute.
The large rooftop had an amazing view where one can enjoy tea.
Each time we go to Kairouan we stay at this lovely guest house. The family who runs it are incredibly warm and generous, and the place is perfectly located in the old medina. The breakfast is lovely and the atmosphere is great. One of the best elements is they have a private garage nearby for safe parking.
I loved the location and it's place within the medina and proximity to the Grand Mosque and other. The many generations family lodge is romantic in it's preservation and presentation as a traditional Tunisian home, the room was super large and warm. And the owner spoke enough English to help me on the small stuff while serving a super breakfast.
