Great house, lots of space to spread out. This is out in nature, so beware of snakes. My pup was bitten by a copperhead (he's ok now) not owners fault, just be aware. There is a need for a generator as power went out once which means no water (no flushing toilets), but the help line was on top of everything and it was fixed before morning. Seriously, this far out you need a generator.Website implies swimming hole is a private part of this property, but there is no clear path from the house. There is a clear path from the neighbors, who used it while we were there. If it is a shared space, say so and make a path. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. Good place to explore civil war history.
Several small details that wouldn't be very notable but altogether were enough to knock down a few stars. Finding the driveway was a bit of a challenge especially at dusk. Only starter items available were coffee/filters and paper towels. No sponges, dish towels, trash bags dish soap, salt/pepper or propane for the grill. Did communicate with owners about propane and they offered to reimburse.House appeared very clean with plenty of towels but one bathroom had a used washcloth hanging on the shower head and another had a mouse sized hair ball on the floor. Out on the back patio in garden - several dog poop bags (full). Fire pit area had trash and ant infestation. The chairs could have used a good scrubbing down - we chose to skip and just left our firewood.Favorite feature was the screened in porch.
We booked this place for 12 adults and it was last minute as the previously booked location cancelled the day before the trip. We doubled up in each room. It had everything we needed plus a pool. It is located close to numerous wineries and is right next door to the brewery. There was plenty of parking for everyone. The place was clean and checkin and checkout was easy. We property manager was quick to reply to any questions we had. The view was amazing especially for the sunrise!
Our large family loved coming together at this beautiful home! We enjoyed sitting around the large kitchen and beautiful living room while the teens and kids enjoyed the game room and the basketball area. We also loved having a large property to explore
Beautiful property. Very unique layout that we loved since we donât love the open concept homes. There are lots of steps. Enter through the back door, with a gorgeous outdoor space, into the kitchen/dining area. Three ways to go 1. Off to one side is the screened in porch. 2. the other - a spacious laundry area that leads to a half bath on one side with a toilet and sinks, and a half bath on other side with a jetted tub and a stand up shower. You can go down the stairs to the large makeup area, large closet with twin bed then into a bedroom. That bedroom leads to the sitting area and living room area and has half flight of stairs that can go back upstairs to the other side of the kitchen area or downstairs half a flight into the basement. 3. Through the enormous kitchen and there is a half bath, the front doors, a bedroom and stairs to go to lower level bedroom discussed in heading 2, and stairs to go up to bedrooms. Going upstairs half a flight - there is a bedroom (didnât like the open look out panels that look out to front doors and the lower level living room, but room was spacious with its own bathroom.) Going up another half flight of stairs are two additional bedrooms with a jack and Jill bathroom. Toilet and sink area is separate from shower making it very usable for both rooms. The basement area is accessed through the hidden door and a flight of stairs to enjoy the game room. Nice, multiple patios. Remote. Beautiful creek and water fall.
Plenty of room for six of us adults. The surrounding area is beautiful & historic.
Didnât really use the living room with TV, which is separate from kitchen but that was ok for us as we played card & board games at night.
Fire pit area was great; game room fun for a few games of pool & pingpong.
Unique house layout for sure!
Phenomenal house with a unique layout that brings groups closer together. The drive up is a bit steep, but the home is enchanting and located well in the woods. Very private and a great getaway.
The outdoor play area is sweet, but the hoop did break on us after regular usage which was a bit disappointing. The grill worked perfectly and was clean. Towels were provided and all the bathrooms were spotless. There were some critters, but itâs to be expected in the woods.
A bit on the pricier side but can be worth it with many people as it has everything you need. Hosts are also very quick to respond, and I appreciated their communication throughout.
This property was very clean and stocked well with essentials. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms very nice, a nice big kitchen to cook in (but there was only one counter stool). We enjoyed our stay the first 24 hours but unfortunately the air conditioning was not working well. It was 81 degrees inside. They had fans in each room which did help but was uncomfortable for sleeping. It was extemely hot and humid outside. The BIG problem we had was we had NO water. The property manager was very responsive but after wasting a day there, the maintenance man was unable to restore running water. He said low water pressure was an issue in the past with guests but never like this. He was not able to fix the A/C. The owners were very gracious and responsive to our needs but we had to leave and find a hotel for all 14 of us. They did compensate us for most of our stay which was what we asked for. It was a nice place for large families, sadly we had those 2 major issues.
We had a group of friends getting together and really enjoyed the layout of the home. There was ample space to spread out or get together in multiple communal areas. The game room in the basement was great. The only minor issue we had was the wifi connection in the mid level sitting area but when we messaged the property manager we got a very prompt response. Overall I would definitely recommend this property. I would recommend a larger vehicle if you have one as the drive up to the house is a little daunting but not to the point it requires 4 wheel drive, I made it up in a hatchback.
The bedrooms and beds are good. Its a big house. Fireplace doesn't work, basketball hoop broken, kitchen is mediocre, trash in the woods, Tv a bit difficult to use, furniture, bathrooms, and general aesthetics meh. If it were 40% cheaper it would all be fine.
11 women stayed at the home in Feb. for annual Friends-Mas. home is very large, spacious, and provides lots of outside space as well. screened in porch off kitchen was nice. abundance of clean towels in each bathroom was great, and not always typical when renting a home. some cons to the home during our stay. I didnât notice anyone (in the reviewâs) mention the hill/driveway leading up to the property. This would have been a huge deal if the weather was bad and probably impossible to get up the road if you werenât driving a SUV/all wheel drive. We drove a sprinter. The path is very narrow, very bumpy, and there are no guardrails. Take this into consideration when booking this home.
We arrived around check in time and upon entering the home we noticed it was absolutely Freezing inside. It took several hours to warm the house up. The Vents throughout the home had dead bugs stuck to it and were extremely dusty and dirty. There was absolutely No cleaning supplies or dish detergent in the home. I know this may be standard but just something to keep in mind when booking. couches in the lower level living room smelled awful including throw blankets & pillows on the couch. I can only recall 1 TV so adding a couple more would also be nice.
Kitchen island stools very wobbly. Between the group we have all rented and stayed in various homes, and we all felt it didnât feel âhomeyâ and could use some decor, and minor updating. Overall the home was great for space/size, not much else.
in the area working for the power company. the property is great. house is awsome and clean. plenty of room for everyone to have privacy. host is very helpful and flexible
Lovely home. Kitchenware needs to be expanded unless you grill daily. Three generations can be accommodated easily. Quickly responded when we reported wasps near the door of the porch.
Great house for a group, with a few suggested improvements
Nice, big house with plenty of room for a larger group. The location is remote, but you can still access Harpers Ferry pretty easily. Check-in was a bit of a struggle for us - we hadn't received the door code and it took about an hour to get in touch with the host. The keypad itself is also quite finicky, but it might have just been low on batteries. The wifi did not work well enough for a larger group, but that might not be a bad thing if you're looking to disconnect!
Beautiful home with much attention to detail and the needs of the renter. Outside there is terrain to explore, a basketball court, places to play, and seating areas including a wonderful screened in porch. Inside there is a great variety of bedrooms and bathrooms, an enormous well-equipped kitchen, centrally located washer and dryer, and a super fun game room. This a wonderful property and my family enjoyed our stay completely.
Enjoyed the stay but no TV and internet was spotty
Enjoyed the stay, but there was only 1 TV in the house and it didnât work. Also, the internet was not very reliable and would go in and out depending on where you were in the house. These arenât huge issues but when youâre paying that much youâd expect those two things to not be a problem.
