It appears the resort is going through a lot of upgrading. During our stay we didn’t have water for 1/2 a day with advance warning. Internet barely worked unless we stood in one corner of the house. Mentioned the issue but nothing was done. Breakfast was provided by a nearby restaurant but still had to load up the car with our kids 5&2 year olds as it could be walked by adults but too far and hilly for them. Unit 13 where we stayed along with another unit are not in the gated secure portion of the resort. We didn’t feel threatened but just strange as it could have easily been addressed by relocating the gate 90 degrees at an intersection. One of the showers was I. Rough shape but the other was good. Our friends stayed in the largest unit, #14 which was much nicer.

Mixed Bag

I have very mixed feelings about this place. The good: the upgraded us to a lodge for free (we booked a standard room) because it was low season. The lodge was a highlight and my son had such a great time choosing between sleeping in the loft inside or the exterior loft (you reach it through outdoor stairs and it has a private entrance). It was a bit far from town, but I actually loved that because it was so beautiful and quiet and we just sat on the deck enjoying a jungle rainstorm. Also, they've recently hired a place called the Geckos to do their breakfasts and it was THE BEST food we had in Costa Rica. So so good. Also, we got a free visit to Misitico Hanging Bridges as a peace offering because they're doing construction right now and it was a bit noisy. I was happy with the trade! The downsides: the cleanliness was questionable. The light switch in the bathroom and the legs on the bathroom vanity were coated with grime and my pillow smelled like sweat. Gag. Also, they didn't refill the soap in one of the bathrooms - good thing we had two. The lodge bathrooms were so nice though. Huge windows and you could shower with them open because no one was nearby - just the jungle. Lastly, I can't decide if this is a con or a pro... a howler monkey lives nearby and kept jumping on the metal roof and dropping stuff on the roof starting at about 4:45am each morning. It was amusing, but also made it a bit hard to sleep. My biggest complaint is that there was NO POOL, even though the

The private villa specifically, is an absolute gem

This is an ideal spot for anyone low maintenance, and can get the private villa, on sale. We stayed in villa 14 which was excellent, but it's definitely not modern or 'sealed' off from nature. There are broken curtain rods, missing pool and bathroom tiles here and there, ants, spiders and numerous other native bugs, but nothing that detracted from the wonderful experiences our family had here. The showers and water, heat were great. The private pool was ideal as the hotel pool is by the main office, and the cabins are a rocky, steep walk away. The included breakfast is also off premises, so you will need to drive there every morning if you're interested. The road in and off premises is also a bit tricky to navigate if there's 2way traffic as it's very narrow.

Beautiful property. Is it a 5 star resort no but for the area and country it was. It provided my daughter and I a wonderful place to stay, feel safe, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica. There was maintenance going on but nothing that dampened our experience. They are expanding and thats great. All the workers were friendly and ecen when they were doing landsacaping they never came to our lodge when we were home so there was no feeling of our privacy being invaded. The staff was friendly and helped with suggestions of places to go. They provided us with everything we needed to enjoy our trip.

They are working on renewing the property. Accessibility is not for adults with no willingness for exercise. Accessing the cabins is super hard. No restaurant available and the one offer for the hotel is no a good clean condition it’s a mix of a restaurant and dogs shelter. The offer to hike at Mistico is excellent but do not go to the restaurant at Mistico because the service is terrible. Over all is ok if you are willing to deal with all Of that but out of 10000 other options you choose something else.

Main living area, kitchen, and bathrooms need a remodel. In my opinion the sofa was completely unusable. The showers soaked half the bathroom floors. TVs and better AC would have been nice. Beds were comfortable and Private pool was convenient.

Arenal lodge was a complete dream come true, my mother and I stayed in the Tucán lodge, she travelled from Italy to meet up with me, and felt completely relaxed once reached arenal lodge. The lodge was clean and spacious, it was very comfortable and beautiful. We were immersed in the forest and had a hammock on the mosquito safe terrace. It was beyond beautiful. We also had breakfast included and a hike that was beautiful. That hike we saw lots of Congo monkeys and a yellow snake.

Stay away if you like comfort, A/C, H20, and WiFi.

We stayed 3 nights. 2 nights we did not have WiFi, one night we did not have power (no a/c and no windows to open for air flow), and one night we did not have any water (and we really needed showers after day excursions, let alone use the toilet). The bed was not comfortable...we sunk toward the middle. It was not a good experience...we do not recommend.

Needs Maintenance and an Urgent Upgrade The resort has great potential but is in clear need of maintenance and an urgent upgrade. Unfortunately, the pictures shown online do not reflect the actual condition of the property. We encountered a serious issue with insects—our villa was invaded by beetles, which truly frightened my daughter. On a positive note, the staff at the reception were absolutely lovely. Upon our arrival, they upgraded us to a larger villa without us even asking, which was a thoughtful gesture. The two-bedroom villa we stayed in is indeed spacious, but it would benefit greatly from better insulation and improved protection from the elements and exterior pests. In its current state, I would not recommend it, but with proper care and renovations, this place could become a gem

Pros: Very spacious, friendly staff, unbeatable views, good local typical breakfast. Cons: No weather stripping on doors so LOTS of bugs get it. Had to ask the staff the clean off the spider webs on the chandeliers. Outdated and worn furniture. If you can handle a very rustic feel and don't mind fighting bugs that are drawn by lights, then this place is great. The views are fantastic. Not close to town and you must have an AWD car to get around.

WOW, over and beyond what we expected!!! All separate houses spread apart. Other than birds, total silence. Had a Toucan right outside our window. Location maybe .025 mi from LaFortuna waterfall. HIGHLY recommend

This property is just up the hill from the Fortuna Waterfall! We were able to walk down and back up. It is a steep hill if you are unable to walk hills it would be better to drive. We stayed in villa 17 which is the furthest away villa! It’s huge and gorgeous! Has a great view from both balconies! It is a steep walk up and down to get to the pool and reception desk. If you are older I would suggest a closer villa. We enjoyed the walk though! They are remodeling right now so we had to eat breakfast (which was included) at a restaurant down the hill called Geckos! Definitely worth going to! It was soooo good and it’s a dog rescue!!

We had a wonderful time at our little bungalow. It was a two bedroom with a kitchen and our own private pool. We were in the jungle so we had a lot of activity at night, but it was fun and well worth it.
