We had rented this space for our family of 5 . We were provided with a single, aged electric space heater in which to heat the entire first floor. To say that the space was chilly is an understatement. With temps set to fall below 40 degrees Fahrenheit that evening, we were concerned that we would be cold but were willing to tough it out with extra blankets. If this were the only issue, we could have overlooked it. Unfortunately, it was not. We began to prepare dinner - that is when we discovered an ant infestation in the kitchen. At the same time, our daughter attempted to shower but there was no hot water. We detected that the hot water heater was not plugged in - so, we plugged it in and waited, and waitedâŠand still, no hot water. When we reached out to the owner about these issues, she stated that she did not charge us for heating (which is hidden in fine print of property details that there is a 10 euro charge for heating) and that the hot water heater works well if left plugged in for 20 - 30 minutes (after 60 minutes - no hot water). In addition, she stated that because it is a country house, âsome ants are expectedâ.These safety issues (amplified by the lack of smoke detector and expectation that we use a free-standing electric space heater), we chose to depart the rental. The owner agreed to refund us our rental fee. However, she went back on her word and provided only a partial refund because of our daughter's attempt to shower.
