Had a blast staying there. Wonderful breeze. Only thing was a downfall was the mosquitoes but luckily we brought repellent. Overall it was a lovely place and great location. Not far from beach entrance.
My wife and I had an excellent stay in Matagorda Iâd recommend this place to all my friends itâs close to the beach and perfect place to relax over the weekend! We will be back for sure.
First off, I want to say that my family and I have spent at least one summer weekend + in Matagorda at the beach for the last 13 years, so weâre used to the environment and the usual bugs (like mosquitos and ants). I also appreciate that Matagorda beach was near the epicenter of Hurricane Beryl, so I checked to make sure that the property was okay before we got there. The manager said it was in good order.
Our problems started shortly after we arrived to stay for the weekend. We noticed a can of bug spray on top of the fridge, but the place seemed fairly clean. However, we noticed a couple of roaches in the kitchen and killed them, but the problem was worse than we thought. My wife and I went to bed and righte before we were going to turn the light off, we noticed a German cockroach on our head board. I killed it and we went to sleep. Around 3 am, I awoke to the feel of something crawling on my legs. 2 small cockroaches were crawling on me. I noticed that my wife went to the bed in the living room, as she had found 2 more on her side.
After maybe 2 more hours of restless sleep, our daughter said that she had been bitten by something in the night and we decided that we could not stay a second night.
When I informed the property manager of this, and asked him to refund us the second night, he asked for photos as proof (luckily I took those and several videos). In short, check to make sure that the place is clean before booking it.

There was so much standing water when we arrived that we could not see the driveway to get to it. The owner offered us another place, smaller and less desirable but a place for us to stay. We moved into the place I rented the next day. The mosquitoes were vicious because of all of the rain but the house was great, with a porch we enjoyed a lot. The beach was great, too.
Love coming to Matagorda and finding a beach house right on Beach Front Drive or Dunes Drive. This one backs to the beach so you have beach views from the porch or from inside the living room/kitchen area with the blinds open. Spacious living areas inside, though the bedrooms are sort of small...but you should be out at the beach most of the time when staying here. The mosquitos are quite fierce, especially this time of year, so bring bug spray. Also, the charcoal grill worked perfectly so make sure you bring charcoal and lighter fluid. The owner checked in on us via the app during our stay but we were all set. We didn't have any problems whatsoever. The water out of the kitchen sink did have a bit of a bad taste to it, but I've never stayed at a beach house in Matagorda with good tasting water so this was not a problem either...just make sure you're stocked up on plenty of bottled water. Can't recommend a Matagorda beach stay enough and this house was definitely on the upper end of the places we have stayed in the last 15 summers of visits.
Enjoyed the stay. Plenty of room for 5 of us to go down and stay while fishing. Easy to communicate with the host who answered any questions we had promptly. Quiet area and easy to get in and out.
