We wound up finding Roger & Elaine's Pond House after staying elsewhere in the area the prior summer and wanting to return. My wife and I along with two boys, two dogs, an Auntie and Uncle, had a comfortable stay in the house.
You couldn't ask for nicer or more accommodating hosts. Roger stopped by to check in a couple of times, and we enjoyed chatting with him about the area. He had great tips to check out locally.
The house was well kept and cozy with a nice open kitchen/living area and great shower pressure. We had plenty of room when it rained too hard to be out on the water. The bedrooms were comfy and we slept well every night.
The dock was great for fishing, jumping in for a swim, and taking out a kayak or canoe which were in great shape and there for our use. The kids loved swimming to the floating dock and doing dives and cannonballs.
The pond itself is a gem, surrounded by wetland habitat, with plenty of birds and plants to spot. We rented a pontoon for the week, which we could take from the pond through a winding channel around a mile to the south end of Long Lake, and on from there into town for groceries.
Make sure you have bug spray, as this is summertime in Maine, but with that taken care of, the area around the pond including a snowmobile trail network was a delight to explore with our dogs.
Overall a wonderful week with many great memories. We're already looking forward to our next visit.
