We are returning home from a fantastic week in New Orleans. The character, comfort and convenience of this rental were a big part of a memorable trip. My family, including a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old, found this to be a perfect base for our week. The condo above the Quartermaster Deli is very old (The Oldest Creole Cottage in the French Quarter) and full of charm just like the city itself. It is clean, fully stocked, with ample space for the four of us. We enjoyed watching weddings come down the north end of Bourbon Street from the balcony. One day, during a afternoon “break” we were surprised by a local Junior High Marching Band coming up the street. Beds are comfortable, noise is a non-issue. Convenience is key for us, and we were able to walk to everything. Restaurants, shopping, tours (including a fantastic bike tour to the Garden District), streetcars to get just about anywhere (City Park, Oak Street), French Market, Frenchman Street, Jackson Square, The Treme, Armstrong Park...almost everthing was in walking distance or a short streetcar ride. The kitchen in the unit seemed pretty well stocked, but we really didn’t use it much...too many good local restaurants. If wondering about Bourbon Street with kids, the unit is at the “quiet” (relative) end of the party. If you want the scene of the Bourbon Street party it’s there.... If you don’t, it’s easy to walk around it. That said the kids enjoyed all of it. This was a perfect one-of-a-kind home for a week in a one-of-a-kind city. My only word of caution is that the car bar, while fantastic, is a car bar.... We were able to stuff a Honda Oddysey into it it’s some difficulty, but it’s probably more suited to a Mini.
A fantastic stay. My krewe is looking forward to another visit, and we’d stay here again. Prondre du bon temps.
