The Gallivant is adequate for a night, maybe 2. But “adequate” is about the best I can say for it. The elevators are cramped, and during my stay one was out of service, which meant there were a couple times (just in a 24-hour stay) when my wife and I had to wait for a couple cycles because the elevator was full. The shower has a half-panel screen with no door, so much of the bathroom floor got wet from water splashing out of the shower. And the bed, while not terrible, did have a noticeable depression in the middle. I can’t say it’s the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in NYC, but I don’t plan on returning to it.

Not coming back

It’s a budget hotel at way higher than budget prices - the only good thing about it was the location (but the prices were still on the high side for that area). My biggest complaint is the housekeeping - they did a terrible job cleaning the room, but for 2 hours every day, there would be 2-4 housekeepers on the floor screaming at each other from different rooms, making it impossible to sleep past 8:30am (at least in my floor- I assume they move to different locations throughout the day).

We booked this hotel for a one night stay in April. When we arrived we were not really greeted and just given a room. The check in staff were not in anyway friendly and did not share even basic information. We went to our room. There was someone coming out of our room, who said oh is that your room and turned around and opened it again. We went in. The pillows had all been moved and it was obvious somebody had been lying on the bed. The towel in the bathroom had also been moved. It was obvious this staff member had been taking a break in the room. We went to the reception. They said (without checking) oh thats the manager checking room. We got another room which appeared to be smaller than the first one. The heat in the room didnt work. It would not adjust. There was no digital thermostat just the dial on the machine itself. It wouldnt turn on or off or adjust. It just kept pumping out heat. The room was in the mid to high eighties and uncomfortably so much we just had to lie on top of the covers. My wife left the room sweating the next day saying she couldnt stay in the room. I took photos of the state the room was in the first room. I also took photos of heater settings. In the bathroom there were several fixtures which were not connected to the wall. This is a very poorly maintained hotel. This could only be 2 star hotel. They charge for minding bags per items something all other hotels i have stayed at do complimentary. $3 an item. Hotel was 287 for one night.

Great location and good bed, but run down, etc.

Room a/c wasn’t consistent and randomly went blistering hot at night when it was set on 69° Cold. Which is not fun when you’re staying only one night. Bathroom has a half door and gets wet everywhere. Very annoying and small. Only one outlet worked in the whole room, which was also frustrating. I was in town for a meeting, only one night, so it was fine overall because the location was perfect. However, I’d never bring my wife here with me: she would cringe at the lackluster lobby decor/design alone. It was a wild concoction of I-dont-know-what, but definitely not worthy of a “resort fee.”

30 minute delay between 3:30-4P because rooms were not available or clean. Front Desk Staff that checked me in could’ve been a little more friendly. Maid service is quick to let themselves in which is why u need to put the safety bar latch up top if you were in the shower.

I normally don't leave reviews, good or bad, but this wasn't the best hotel stay I've had. Check in was delayed about 20 minutes due to housekeeping being behind schedule, the bed was small, the bathroom was also very small you couldn't fit more than two people in there, the bathroom had tiny knats or fruit flies around (I am not sure what exactly they were), the TV remote didn't work, and the smoke detector in the room was broken (not a good feeling god forbid there was a real emergency). The staff was nice but didn't seem to care much about these when I talked about just the smoke detector and TV remote at the front desk.

Cleaning staff come into your room even when the do not disturb sign is out. 3 elevators and they only work half the time. The fan in the bathroom did not work and neither did the outlet near the bed.
