We were staying 2 nights over Easter, and booked this hotel due to being located next to the train station so perfect if arriving by train. We were on the 2nd floor and the lifts were working, but carpeting inside was grubby. As mentioned by some others the property is in need of some work as it is quite tired and grubby looking in some areas. The communal areas do have carpets where worn bits have been taped over with electrical tape. Our room was relatively clean and tidy although the windows were very dirty. The beds were comfy. The small toilet and shower area was mainly clean but the shower grouting needs whitened and the ceiling above the shower has cracked paint. The room was meant to have a safe, which, when we reported there wasn't one, we were advised "there should be one". There was also no phone for room service although again "there should be one". Unlike some others we had no issues with the staff and all we dealt with were very approachable and helpful. I am not particularly fussy about most things and although I have mentioned some issues, they weren't deal breakers. I think the costs for remodelling and replacing the communal carpets would (probably) be astronomical. I cant recommend it but wouldn't warn against it and there are lots of reviews where people are very happy.

Must have been grand once but needs work on it now

Rooms not as in photos, old sash windows that are restricted and also you can’t close so would be hot in summer and is noisy at night, no bedside tables, interior door hanging off hinge, dirty walls and tape sticking down carpet on stairs. ‘Leisure facilities’ are awful, don’t even bother going.

Always stay at this hotel when in Newcastle but this time, slept in a very uncomfortable bed. Mattress was very sunken on both sides and had lost it's spring. Luckily only a one night stay or would have asked for a better bed.

Disappointed this time staying.

Breakfast was very disappointing as there was gardly anything readily available. We had to keep on asking dor the things as they stayed empty. Ended up having to go out and get breakfast. Hotel is nice, but very old fashioned. Great locationl.

Super friendly hotel a aft, big old building so a bit of a task finding the room , rooms really bi, bathroom clean only downside was very creaky floor (but as mentioned it is an old building) and a distinct lack of plug sockets. Only one in room (TV)

Right next to station - Pool a bonus!

Hotel right next to station. Hotel a bit dated. Bar was expensive. The gym, pool, sauna and steam room were excellent. I would stay here again.

Great location, easy access to lots of attractions in Newcastle city centre. Hotel parking is limited, although the train station carpark is behind the hotel, but the hotel staff no nothing about the charges.
