The location of the hotel us perfect for The Spanish City and the beach. The hotel is under renovation and it looks closed. Reception is old and outdated. The staff are nice and helpful. Rooms are ok, bedding was clean and the sea view was great. Breakfast was standard buffet. The breakfast staff are very nice. If they are also renovating the rooms, this will be a fab place. But, at the moment, its ok. Parking is approx 8 or 9 spaces at he front on a first come first served basis. We were lucky to grab a space.
I have never been so disturbed by a hotel ever in my life. I checked in on August 1 and left the premises within 15 minutes. When I walked into the room, there was an obvious stagnant odor in the room.. I still tried to make myself stay after driving.I l laid on the lumpy old mattress for a few minutes and I began to fill my throat tighten to whatever it was in the room. I understand they are supposedly under a remodeling period, however, that is no excuse for the air quality to be in that condition. I began having breathing issues.. the desk attendant did show me other rooms hoping they would be different. I viewed 3 rooms in total. They were all the same..
I literally booked this room within 20 minutes of walking in with a no refund for cancellation since I thought I was definitely staying after driving many hours. Though their hotel was causing a severe allergic reaction due to a thick stagnant stench in their room with zero airflow I wasnât offered a refund. The staff also could not suggest a hotel nearby that he considered a safe place to stay. Expedia and myself contacted management and they are refusing a refund.
I attempted to be kind to the gentleman showing me the room with saying âperhaps it was a cleaning agentâ, causing my reaction. But after reviewing the other rooms, I quickly came to realize it was the LACK of cleaning. & LACK OF AIR CIRCULATION.
I would not under any circumstances suggest the Royal hotel at Whitley Bay for anyone ever.
At the moment there are scaffold on the outside, it didn't affect my stay. Hotel was well situated for the front and a short walk to the bars. I would consider staying here again.
I spent one night whilst visiting a friend and the hotel was absolutely ideal. Fantastic location on the beach front. All of the staff were friendly, the room was a decent size and very clean. Bathroom was also a good size with a powerful shower and extremely clean. It's a touch on the old side and is currently being renovated but honestly for the price it exceeded all expectations. The breakfast is genuinely superb as a particular highlight.
Great location, but it's so tired and tatty inside. No sound proofing, ancient carpet, mattress and bathroom. It is being refurbished, maybe they'll actually invest some money in the facilities. The staff were really helpful, it's not their fault the owners haven't invested over the years.
Excellent staff and service throughout, property feels a bit run down though. Hoping the current construction carries through to the inside as it will be an amazing place if it could modernise and clean up a bit.
Ongoing renovation to front of hotel with scaffolding and plastic sheeting mean no sea view rooms. Many stairs and corridors to negotiate to rooms, no lift. Room poorly furnished but adequate.
Very good breakfast however.
Exterior of hotel was being refurbished so there was scaffolding outside window and sea view was restricted.
The room was on the third floor and there was a complicated route of several stairways to get to it.
Room was large and clean but bathroom needs refurbishing.
Food from the breakfast buffet was tepid/cold.
