I loved the attention that Jose gave his guests, he really made us feel welcome and well received. The property is very quite and cozy despite its location very near the heart of Oaxaca. I also appreciated the cafe across the hall Cafe Lupita, it couldn't have been better for our 1st morning cup of Joe. All this said, the studio opens out to the sidewalk and the upstairs can get warm during the day.

If you want to live in a cave, this is for you
I feel sorry for the owner because he gave much thought to built-in cabinets, nice sofas, recessed lighting, a well-equipped kitchen and the display of vintage cameras and typewriters. BUT he must never have experienced the discomfort of living there. You can't open the wooden-shuttered front window, because it faces the sidewalk and noisy traffic. A side window looks onto the entry to other apartments and has little light, so you must always keep on the lights. The bathroom fixtures are caked with calcium build-up and the room has a sewer smell. The building manager told me to run the water for about 5 minutes to get hot water. Shameful waste because Mexico is having a water shortage! Bedroom is spacious and in the basement. The freestanding gigantic air conditioner sounds like an industrial fan, but that white noise does keep out the noise of traffic and the barking dogs that live on the barb-wired roof of the building next door. There is no reception, so you can't use your phone or laptop in bed. I left 4 days early because of the oppressive atmosphere. I suggest that the owner make improvements before being allowed on VRBO again. 1) Install a soundproof glass window in front of the shutters. 2) Improve the water heating speed.3) Do something to remove the foul bathroom odor. 4) Install a quiet air conditioner in the basement.
