Namba Oriental Hotel is in the middle of it all in Osaka. Many dining and shopping options, few steps away from the train station, and within walking distance to Dotombori. Our room was small but clean. The room had a portable air conditioner which was great since it was hot and humid outside, and the toilet had bidet, seat warming accouterments. Guests can use the washer and dryer free of charge, and the breakfast was awesome with American and Japanese varieties. I would highly recommend staying at this property when in Osaka.

Great amenities but dirty carpet

This hotel has amazing amenities. It has a free lounge for guest to enjoy some drinks and snacks from 2-10pm. It also offers free laundry and vacuum sealing of clothes. The hotel is also in the near of Dotonburi with shops right outside the door. It’s a 25 minute taxi ride from Universal which wasn’t bad. We were tired of changing hotel rooms so we decided to stay in Dotonburi area. I would’ve given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the condition of the rooms. The carpet was in desperate need of replacement due to visible dark stains. The room also wasn’t thoroughly cleaned. We found some trash inside when we first walked in. Overall, the free amenities count for something and perhaps, we would consider staying here again if we ever go back to Osaka, but they really need to clean or replace the carpet.

If you want to be super close to Dotonbori and surrounded by the pachinko gaming centers, claw games, shops geared for tourists (eg Don Quijote), and many restaurants, this hotel is great. It also offered free laundry and a vacuum sealer which is a huge plus. They had a courtesy snack and drink area opened for guests from 2-10 pm which included alcoholic drinks (a few selections of Hard liquor like dark rum, beer on tap, sake, sparkling wine), a automatic pancake maker which was a hit with the kids, and small snacks like nuts and dried fruit. It is a bit older, so our room had thin carpets and had a bit of old cigarette smell to it. (We had non smoking room ). They included an air purifier so once we turned that on it was better.

The only thing I didn’t like most about this property was that their beds are too firm. I had a rough time sleeping on the rock solid beds. On the last morning of our trip we paid for the buffet breakfast at 9:30. Their buffet closes at 10:00. When we walked downstairs the closed sign to the buffet was already up but we gave the worker our receipt that we just paid so he let us in. We should’ve been warned that the food was gonna be minimal at that time. There was barely anything left. This cost us $20 each and it definitely wasn’t worth it. If we had known how empty everything was we would’ve gone somewhere else. I did love the lounge area where they had free drinks and snacks daily from 2:00 pm.

This was an excellent location for our family. We love that there were restaurants and shopping in the immediate vicinity and around the hotel. Dotonburi and Shinsaibashi -Suji were within walking distance. The vacuum packing machine in the lounge helped us in keeping all our purchases fit in our carry on luggage.
