The lodge was absolutely stunning, everyone loved their sleeping accommodations. We loved all the attention to detail that the lodge had from the hosts including all the kitchen utensils down to the little water cans on the bunk beds and the luxury bathrobe and linens in the master bath. The accessibility to the kayaks and canoes we also do much fun! We literally had the best weekend ever here! The hosts were absolutely incredible with communication throughout our stay. Absolutely 10/10 experience, my family will definitely be back!
The location of this home was wonderful and our family was very excited to have a quiet place to vacation. Unfortunately the listing and expectations presented were not what we arrived to. Many items in the home are in need of repair from rotting exterior steps, torn out screens, windows without openers (No AC so much needed), beds with broken supports and mattresses that need updating to a front door that can not be opened from the outside nor the inside if the removable latch is not perfectly positioned, broken basement exit door handle and screens, smelly master bedroom, basement is musty and does have a dehumidifier that we cleaned each day, missing lightbulbs, etc. The fishing dock is broken and on shore so not usable. The refrigerator had many broken parts and was not working correctly. The homeowner did have a new refrigerator delivered and the old fridge remained and was able to be used for veggies. Text messages from the homeowner were almost a daily occurance. Not our unplugged vacation expectation. If you are not renting the adjoining garage space/apartment, realize that other guests will also be sharing the space with you.Unfortunately this is not what was anticipated according to the listing, cost and the large list of do's and don'ts provided, discussed over a phone conference and mandatorily shared with all guests. We did not expect to be arriving at a party house. This is a property with a beautiful location and great potential that really needs some TLC.
The cabin is beautiful, set in a rustic and peaceful location; itâs even better in person than in the photos. The interior was cozy, well-designed, with lots of thoughtful touches. We werenât able to enjoy the water due to the cold weather, but thereâs clearly plenty to do when itâs warmer outside. The hosts were super responsive and very on top of things, which we really appreciated. That said, there was a bit of a push to add extras or reminders about potential fees, which felt a little out of place given the premium nature of the property. Also, we were informed at check-in that one of the showers was out of commission and we were not offered any type of alternative or refund. Not ideal for a group of 12, but also not the end of the world. Still, our weekend was amazing and just what we needed! Thanks Amandy & Phil!
The house was large and spacious for our group of 17, ranging in age from 4 months to 64 years. The beach towels, games and childrenâs toys came in handy. Kitchen has a nice layout for several people to work together! Loved the beautiful wooden kitchen table! Water off pier was shallow for school age children. Would recommend water shoes for the rocky bottom. Quiet roads for walking or gravel cycling. Owners were great to work with. Would recommend for your large group of family or friends!
We had a big group of friends all get together and we really enjoyed our stay! The place was wonderful, clean, and the outdoor amenities made for such a fun stay!! Highly recommend!!
Fantastic lodge on a beautiful lake for a family reunion!
Tremendous family memories were made the last two weeks staying at Cast Iron Lodge on Lac Vieux Desert!! The lodgeâs interior and exterior spaces are spacious, well designed so that my familyâs three generations of adults and children could gather, eat, play, and visit with ease. We loved canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and mtn biking. We rented a pontoon from Rob and the kids and adults had a blast tubing and water skiing! Phil and Amandy were excellent hosts, answering any questions that we had in a timely fashion. I highly recommend a stay at Cast Iron Lodge!
Whenever one books a vacation rental, thereâs always this nagging doubt that the marketing is maybe ways away from reality. In this case, it was, but as a pleasant surprise. This is a phenomenal property and was extremely comfortable for our party of 15 - 5 families. We had plenty of space, lots of amenities and the view was a million dollar view. The boat slip (and lift) was a really convenient amenity.
The best passer of the property was the location. Far away from traffic and crowds and nestled within mature green areas of a lakeside forest.
The response from the owners are really on point and we enjoyed corresponding with them. Overall highly recommend this rental.
This place is so beautiful and had everything you need for a weekend get away. Views of the lake were incredible from the house and there is so much space within the house- we had a group of 20 and everyone fit comfortably! Great communication from the hosts as well, with great recommendations
Beautiful home located steps from Lac Vieux Desert lake. This home had everything we needed for a fun friends weekend of laughing and skiing at Ski Brule. The owner communication was amazing. Highly recommend this property.
Beautiful lodge, went on an ice fishing trip with 6 friends, everyone had a comfortable bedroom, kitchen was stocked, and we all admired the beauty of the lodge when we were off the lake! Great accommodations, book it, you wonât regret it!
The pictures donât do this property justice. The accommodations were excellent and the owners were very easy to work with. Had an awesome time with the family in the northwoods!
We often gather as a family, but this was a first for fishing in Wisc. Some family members live in the area and we have not seen in years so they visited for a few hours one day. It was great for our 2 1/2 yr old to catch first fish. Weather was great and lodge was perfect for our group. Have fished in the area 60 yrs ago, so was a homecoming and the fish caught were very healthy, no grubs.
Amandy's communication was like none other! Kept us up to date with things to do in the area, places to get wood and a boat as we got closer to our dates. She was very responsive with all my questions. Owners responded immediately when there were issues with the toilets.
House was comfortable and fit our family of 20 easily. The lake was amazing! Would recommend and would stay again!
3 generations of family getting together for a weeks vacation. Rented 2 boats and did a lot of water sports. House was plenty big enough to handle all 20 of us. Would recommend this property for family get together.
This home is big and beautiful.. If you have older kids the lakefront is awesome. If you have younger children it gets a lot of the wind and waves on this side of Lac View Dessert lake, and there is no beach.. Just a rocky bottom. Though rocky it is a great place to fish. We were able to land a few small mouth bass and other small fish. The fire pit outside is nice but if the wind blows just right it blows into the house. Make sure to close all doors and windows.
The home has a nice screened in porch for morning devotions and coffee and a place to escape the Wisconsin state bird the mosquito.
The home has many amenities and a large enough kitchen to cook for a large group. The home is dark so if you like light, bring your own.. it was fine for us but hard to read at night The cleaning crew did a great job of providing us a clean place to come to but the wood beams and fans were very dusty and there were many cob webs. We were even met with two bats which we promptly took care of. No fault of anyone's.. it is the north woods. Two of the bathroom doors didn't lock so I hope they fix that for the next group.
The beds were comfortable and they supplied swimming towels which was a nice convenience. The hosts were quick to respond with any questions or concerns we had. We are hosts as well ... we would highly recommend this place. Just wanted you to know the few things we encountered. We would definitely rent this again!
The property was nice for our group of 11 family members. The house is spacious and well built, but the appliances are showing some age. Renters do not control the thermostat so prepare accordingly - we stayed in early summer and it was cool in the house. We recommend you make sure to bring bug spray/bracelets, bath and shower soap, toilet paper, napkins and paper towels, paper plates, garbage bags, dish soap and dishwasher pods (must use pods because as the owner pointed out to us, the dispenser in the dishwasher doesnât work). We enjoyed the lake and fires in the fire pit at night. The dock was very nice. We had a great boat rental from Rob, recommended by the owner. Rob also provided firewood and went out of his way to provide us excellent customer service.
We had 8 guys up for a weekend of snowmobiling and ice fishing. The place was awesome for some much needed recovery after we beat our bodies up on the trails.
The water pressure was amazing and the hot water seemed endless, I'm pretty sure they have a tankless water heater.
The driveway is long and could be difficult if you have a trailer. We had a 28' trailer behind a f250 (roughly 60') and did have a heck of a time turning it around near the house.
We had a blast and plan to use this rental as our Northwoods guys trip destination for years to come
Our stay was wonderful! The pictures of the house do not do it justice. It is beautiful and the views even more so. We found the kitchen to be excellent for cooking, a dinner for 10, as well as a brunch. As we were there for a wedding we did not get as much time as we would have liked at this house. Would highly recommend staying here if you are headed to northern Wisconsin.
Family reunion from Singapore, Netherlands, Austria, Texas and Wisconsin
The property was clean and the location was peaceful. We rented a pontoon boat for the extremely large lake. We enjoyed watching the eagles on their nest from the property. The property was furnished with canoes, and kayaks. We made smores at the firepit. Amandy and Phil informed us of where to rent a boat and the best restaurants. The weather was good and our reunion was a huge success. Thank you Amandy & Phil for opening up your beautiful log home.
We had 12 adults and 8 kids of varying ages, converging from 4 states across the country. It was perfect for us - plenty of bedrooms and beds, all spread out enough to give privacy as needed, but also beautiful family/dining/kitchen and outside areas to gather together when we wanted. Everything was really clean, and the housekeeper let us in, showed us around and was super friendly. Getting a pontoon for the week was also easy, and we loved fishing and swimming off it. Anchored off the public beach across the lake (Lac Vieux Desert Campground) and we all spent the day there grilling and swimming. Saw and heard the bald eagles just beside the dock all week, and enjoyed the loon visit every evening. Great communication with hosts. Thanks!
Our family decided to recreate family vacations from the past by revisiting Lac Vieux Desert. Cast Iron Lodge was a perfect location for 14 people. Phil and Amandy were very responsive from booking questions through the visit. The house is beautiful and has many extra amenities too. The pier , outside fire pit and multiple decks and sun room really added to our enjoyment! They made a great referral for a boat rental and for a local chef/restaurant that was superb! Highly recommend this property and owners!
