The picturesque coastal town of Porto Venere is located on a rocky headland on the Gulf of La Spezia and welcomes you with a picture-book setting.
The multi-story houses with their pastel-colored facades are packed tightly together along the waterfront promenade. White yachts rock on the water next to blue, yellow and green fishing boats. The mountains rise steeply behind the front of the houses, and in an exposed position high above the scene, Doria Castle is enthroned on a rocky plateau.
At first glance it is hardly recognizable, this very special house front.
The majority of the buildings were built directly on the rock.
The main street runs behind it parallel to the coast and can be reached from the harbor quay via several stair tunnels.
