Overall, Catalonia Royal is okay. We booked this resort based on the promise of snorkeling off the beach, which was not possible. I would not recommend going to this resort in September/ October as it is seaweed season. The beach was covered in rotting seaweed. The water was murky, stinky and overall not swimmable. The resort from a first glance looked nice, but once you get to your room, you’re hit with a damp musty smell that does not go away. The smell of wet mold is most noticeable in the casino at the other Catalonia, which explains why it’s empty most nights. Facilities seem to be dated and could use maintenance. Pools were clean but good luck finding an umbrella at chairs, because they’re either nonexistent or people have reserved their chairs at 7am with towels and personal items. Overall, I don’t understand how this resort is even ranked as 8.2/10… I would say accurately it is more like 6.8/10. Out of the resorts we’ve stayed in Punta Cana, this one ranks the lowest and would not recommend to friends or family.

Hansel hands down was the best entertainer, very good experience, very attentive for issues, rooms were not comfy but put cushions on bed and slept like a baby. Mostly great food and great drinks, most people very pleasant, only thing they said we could go anywhere on adults side and went to one place off beach and didn’t get talk to at all, wish more people spoke English, need better info when entering, specially because it was my first time. I would go back for sure

Great facilities. Service is not great unless you’re constantly tipping. Food at most restaurants is very underwhelming. Food at the main buffet was really good. Technicians and cleaning teams are great!

We were moved from our first room due to no working a/c, safe did not work, and mold. We paid extra for a tub in our room and even in the second room, it would not fill up. Ran for an hour and didn’t get more than 1/4 full. There are no outlets near the beds. They made us leave the family side to get pool towels from the adults only side. They offered a 15% discount on our next stay which is a joke when their website is offering 10% off already. They tried to sell us a package for exclusive members for $60k and were extremely pushy on the sales. Almost like a timeshare. This location is outdated and the benefits aren’t worth the money!

The good: The food was great, with many restaurant options. Cocktails were decent. Entertainment was great. The access to the entire facility including the family side was great. Having 3 large pools to choose from was excellent. The bad: Lackluster service. I once asked for a juice at breakfast and never got it. The staff was often seen talking and joking around at the buffet instead of taking care of the guests. Some were unprofessional and I heard them cursing in Spanish (maybe they thought no one would understand them). Also, even though we liked the restaurant food, the QR code to make reservations never worked. We had to go to guest services. Lastly- I was disappointed our balcony had no view and was blocked off with a black screen due to construction. The place could definitely use some remodeling.
