Cozy, Lived-In Family Base Near Ohakune
This little villa is about 10 minutes’ drive from Ohakune, in a small, quiet settlement — a nice escape from the busier town centre. The house feels warm and cozy, great for a family stay, though it's definitely on the well-used side. Don’t expect anything pristine or newly renovated — it’s got a bit of wear and tear, but that can be a good thing when you’re travelling with kids and don’t want to be too precious about things. The kitchen is well equipped and easy to cook in, although the oven was a bit tricky (the buttons are completely worn off). The fireplace was a big plus — it kept the house comfortably warm and there was plenty of wood supplied.Beds were comfortable and linen was clean. The bathroom is nothing fancy, but clean and totally fine. Having Netflix and free Wi-Fi was a real bonus, especially on rainy days.Considering the price, it’s good value for money — especially for a family trip where comfort and practicality matter more than polish. The weather didn’t do us any favours, but the house was a decent base to hang out in, and we still managed a few little walks and a visit to the Ohakune climbing wall between downpours.
