Walking distance to restaurants and some shopping. Relatively quiet sleeping for location. We used ride share for Pier and left the car in the garage. My son stayed a few months ago and walked to the Pier. He's in good shape. Free parking here is a plus. Hotel is good condition for its age. If you like walking and local vibe this is good choice.

Place and room is clean and good, service was friendly and okay but what is annoying is the noise level. I was in room 116, 3rd room from back end of the bldg but street noise is unbearable with window shut and AC on. Ear plug helped some until people above and around the room stomp, drop stuff and slam doors. If you prefer quiet place to rest, this is not the motel for you. I wish they did show the noise level as part of the rating

A great place just to sleep in not to stay

Very basic hotel. Not a room you want to stay in other than for sleeping. Old and damp carpet, needed to blast air condition to overcome the smell despite it being a cold day. There is free parking which is a great advantage and it’s very close to Polk Street with its restaurants. The staff were very kind and it was easy to check in. I would recommend it if you’re really just looking for a place to sleep not to stay in and enjoy.

Good for the price

It was an accomodation good for the price. The rooms were clean and spacious too. Free car parking is a plus! The location was safe and convenient as well.

Stay at Castle Inn, San Francisco

Had a comfortable stay at the Castle Inn at end of May 2025. The location was excellent, near main attractions. There were issues with the phone system, where the phone rang for 2 straight evenings and no one answered. We notified the front desk and was informed of problems with the phone system. We unplugged the phone after the first night, but the staff plugged it in again (unknown to us) and it disturbed us for the 2nd night. The basement garage provided free parking, but it takes some care and effort to maneuver the car to fit through the extremely narrow entrance. After we checked out, management was affable in storing our baggage until 5:00 pm to enable us to do more sightseeing. Overall, I recommend this hotel for basic comfort, location and reasonable price.

We loved this place!

Natalie was the hotel super modern and very inviting, the room was very clean, the location was great, and the parking was easy. What really pushed our stay over the top and made it truly spectacular was the customer service given to us by Damon at the front desk! He was the best! We can’t see enough wonderful things about him and the help he offered us. We would absolutely recommend this property and we plan to stay here again the next time we’re in town.

This hotel is in a typical San Francisco setting, so parking is very tight and tricky to navigate. The staff were fine, but the building itself is definitely showing its age — old and worn, with a generally dingy feel. Our room’s door closed and locked, but didn’t seal properly, so you could see daylight around it. The place could really use some updates and maintenance to feel more comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly. And there are some good dining options within walking distance. Along with a Walgreens and coffee options. The parking was tight, as in you need to be able to maneuver i and out of the spaces. Though, it is free. Which is hard to find in San Francisco.

Drug Den Motel.

One of the worst nights of staying at any hotel EVER! With screaming and physical fights during the entire night between the people in the room above pounding the ceiling over our heads we had no chance to rest at all before having to get up for our meeting the next morning. The violence became so bad that we were afraid for our safety. I don’t know how this place has racked up a 9.2 rating. However they managed it, it’s a scam. Aside from being disappointed with the hotel, I am also extremely disappointed with hotels.com for offering this type of place on their platform. I’ve been a loyal customer for years but after this experience I am not sure if I can trust hotels.come anymore.

I thought a hotel with this many reviews and still a high rating would be a good option, but it did not meet expectations. The building is just run down. Carpets were old and torn in some areas. There was black mold in the window AC vents. Room was small without much night-stand space. Parking was very tight. When I brought the black mold issue to reception for their awareness, they tried to accommodate. He offered to move us to a different room (which had the same problem) or to give me $30 to not write a bad review! (I didn't take it, of course!) To be fair, if you're looking for a room in SF walking distance to the wharf for under $200 a night, this might be as good as you can get. I can't imagine what it takes to upkeep a building in that city. We didn't see any homeless in that area of the city, and were able to walk to Ghirardelli Square.
