The Carlton is beautiful. The brass, wood trims, the tile are amazing. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. I think the only thing would be to change the carpet on the rooms to the lux vinyl.

I will be coming back!

This is a beautiful historic hotel! Our room was large and the furniture/beds were very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were there only one night and I picked the hotel simply because I needed something affordable and it was less than many others. Now, I wish I was there for a few days. The neighborhood around the hotel looks so charming and the restaurants look yummy... I will have to plan a trip just to stay here again.

I really loved the European charm of the hotel—it’s stylish and cozy. The front desk staff was friendly and welcoming, though I didn’t catch her name. Unfortunately, our stay took a turn late in the evening. Around 10:30 p.m., someone knocked—more like banged—on our door. We didn’t open it, unsure of who it was. Not long after, a staff member began loudly walking the halls, shouting, “Third floor guests, it was reported that someone was smoking marijuana. There will be a cleaning fee of $150.00!” As someone who already struggles with falling and staying asleep, this disturbance made it even harder to rest. I really wish they had handled the situation more discreetly, perhaps by calling the rooms individually instead of announcing it in such a disruptive way. It was a disappointing moment in an otherwise pleasant stay.

We loved this beautiful hotel and the surroundings. The website said there was a bar and restaurant in the hotel. When we got there it was under construction-no bar or restaurant. Very disappointed about that but our granddaughter took us to a great bar and restaurant just a couple of blocks down and we had a lovely dinner.

Great historical place and location. Big rooms and very clean. The whole lobby was being renovated when we arrived. And downtown construction wasn’t great, but I am guessing that is all improvement.

So clearly On Their Game!

The Carlton was a most welcome surprise - clearly an operation coming into its own as renovations approach completion and (within a year) the long-shuttered bar and restaurant are on a path to reopening. Back Porch Cafe was a highlight. I'll be staying here again, for sure! Here's hoping their next 100 years are as storied as their first.

Staff was great, had requested early check-in but they didn't have the room ready, so they worked it out. We didn't have the wine bottle, and trouble with the TV. I would really stay there again once street construction is done and hopefully a restaurant comes back in.

Second time staying here. Rooms can be a little dated but they're clean and spacious. Excellent coffee and pastries in the adjacent cafe. Lobby is currently being renovated. Location is perfect for us - short walk to the Beer Festival and plenty of great dining options within walking distance. Also a short drive to wine tasting, downtown Paso Robles, SLO or Morro Bay.

Great Place

This is a great hotel in a great area. Pillows this time around were super soft, too soft. It was almost like having a pillow. Last time we stayed, a few months ago, pillows were great. But other than that super minor inconvenience, great place to stay. Looking forward to visiting again.
