Wonderful vacation to reconnect with the family! We had a relaxing care-free time with delicious food that Karen prepared for us. We loved going to Secret Beach, snorkeling Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. The property was as described and we can't wait to come back again soon. Limm Family,Houston, Texas
Nothing like the pictures. Bad time with all the sargassum washed up on the beach. We did not have access to the beach from the house. The smell was really bad. The house was very outdated and nothing like the pictures. Karen was great and fed us delicious meals each day. That was the best part of it all.
The house overall needs a refresh. Air conditioner probably needs to be replaced, it never got cold. We got 2 brown towels for the week and that was it. The pictures they post had all sorts of fluffy towels in baskets etc. we couldnât go anywhere at first because they said the golf cart was being repaired. And when they finally offered us a cart it was the âcooksâ personal car, and they wanted to charge us the higher price to take it. Had to go to secret beach to enjoy the water because it looks like they havenât shoveled sargassum for 3 years. It was stinky too inside and out. Private chef, well letâs say cook, was ok. Thank god we booked a fishing trip to actually eat fish that we asked for. We got spaghetti one night. Garbage all along driveway going in to property and out. We wonât be back no photos to post sorry Jerry, you need to work on the house and property
First off, Dorita and Alan (the resident chef and facilitator) were the best part of the stay and deserve all the credit for making our trip as fun as it was. All the meals Dorita cooked for us were delicious and generous. Alan provided answers to all of our questions, greased the wheels for our excursion bookings and managed our early arrival even when the local airline (Tropic Air) pushed us 2 hours earlier than expected. They were great and if that's all I had to review it would be 5 stars. However...The place itself was kind of a dump which is not reflected in the pictures or description. Shower heads were rusty and one popped off, which I fixed. One wall leaked pretty badly during a hard rain and the overall vibe was such that I was SUPER happy my SIL didn't make the trip as planned because she's a little bougie and would have bolted after about 5 minutes for a resort. The worst part of the house stay was just bad luck. The house is situated right smack on the beach and our plan was just to hang there and enjoy the property. Except there was 50 yards of rotting sea grass making the place smell so bad it was almost impossible to be outside at all and certainly impossible to get in the water. This was a problem on the entire windward side of the island and its semi-unpredictable so I can't really hold it against the place but a heads up that this might have been an issue at the time we booked would've been very helpful to level-set expectations.
The host was easy to communicate with and accommodated some last minute changes. Allan & Dorita (on site manager and chef) MADE the stay awesome!!!! They were attentive, fed us well, great resource. They live on the ground floor of the house and the guests stay on the 2nd floor. The glitches: the sargassum odor was disgusting/nauseating & made it impossible to go in the water, sit outside, open windows, use the kayaks. In the dry season, well water is in the pipes that is 35% salt water. We didn't feel clean the entire time bathing in salty water. They don't have a generator and the electricity went out 3 times. 2 were for a short time but 1 was from 11pm til 4 pm the next day. 80 at night without AC, with windows that don't open but if they did, it stunk too much and would let bugs in! We sweat all night!!! The well water needs electricity.. so no flushing toilets or running any water! No charging cell phones! We did leave on a tour during the day and messaged Jerry that if we didn't have electricity when we returned at 5pm, he needed to put us up in a place with electricity and provide meals. His response was appalling. He thought we could sit in the dark after sunset at 6pm in the heat without AC, bathe with a bucket of water, use buckets to flush the toilets and give our phones to Allan to take somewhere to charge!!! That is not what I paid 400/night for. I was about to go ballistic, but decided to wait to see if the power was restored and fortunately it came on at 4pm!
Hosts are excellent, property is a bit lack luster.
The onsite hosts took very good care of us. The house itself was very clean and the food was very good. The property itself was ok. The beds were comfortable but lacked enough seating for both dinner and relaxing inside and on the front deck. We were told there was a washer and dryer. Well, kind of. The dryer does not work at all and the washer washes but you have to hand rinse your clothes. The beach was nice but you couldn't access the water due to the influx of sea grass. This is not their fault but did impact our enjoyment of staying "on the beach ".
My parents, cousins and daughter stayed with Allen and Dorita for 7 days in March. We had such an amazing experience that was made possible by Allen and his family! The house is modest and comfortable with air conditioning in every room. My favorite touch was sink and mirror in every room. My dad really enjoyed his time but mentioned the showers could have been hotter. With 6 people showering around the same time itâs understandable that the hot water ran out quickly. The food was delicious and really a treat for my mom and I who typically cook for the family. This made our vacation so much more enjoyable. My 3 year old daughter loved playing with the kids, outside running around and tending to the puppies. She loved the free spirit and the outdoors. My cousins also shared how the stay was magical all because of you, Allen and Dorita. Thank you so much for all of your wisdom and how caring you are for the property, your country and the guest you welcome. There is no pool on site. We were instructed to visit a near by property that has a pool open to the public. It was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable/ welcoming. We bought drinks and pizza. So not âincludedâ in the stay. Mr. Hill, the tour guide came to set us up the day after we arrived and was able to offer us trips that we all could participate in. Ages 3-76. It was nice that all the excursions left from the property. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.
We had a wonderful stay. Alan and Dorita were amazing hosts and chefs! I spent a lot of time in the Hammocks. The location is just far enough away from San Pedro to be away from the hustle and bustle. The description of the property needs to be updated, as there is no dock and other highlights are vague in description. We enjoyed Belize and will be back in the future.
This is pretty much what they advertise. We had a great time and enjoyed everything . We could snorkel, paddle board and kayak right off our beach . Jose even took my husband fishing off the pier . Alan makes sure everything is just right , and Dorita is an amazing chef . We had an amazing time with a very wonderful experience , the only down side was we had to go home .
I suggest reading reviews so you know what to expect. As others have mentioned, Alan and Dorita were great but don't expect 3 or 4 course dinners. Enjoyed the tour of Mayan Ruins and cave tubing tour which was super convenient as picked up at house (4:30 AM ) and dropped off at night. It would have been helpful to have ice cube trays for the freezer, but bags of ice available to purchase at store. There was no stocked pantry, but you will not go hungry. Water cooler was great so we didn't need to buy bottled water.
Alan met us promptly and anything we asked of him was done immediately. Dorita is a great cook and very nice to talk to. Their kids were very sweet & respectful. The house was not in great repair or furnished very well. There was a lack of drawers space, only a single comfortable porch chair, non- working lights, squeaky doors and poor quality incorrectly-fitting sheets. The pool and washer & dryer mentioned in ad did not exist. House water was not drinkable or usable even to brush teeth. There were not multiple kayaks. The beach in front of house was a never-ending project for Alan as the plastic trash and seaweed washed up constantly. Secret Beach (a very bumpy golf cart ride away) was the only decent place to go in water. It just wasnât fun so we left early. .
Our family had an incredible stay at Escape Away. Alan and Dorita made ua feel very comfortable and well taken care of. Alan picked us up from the airport and whisked us to the home where Dorita had an amazing meal waiting for us.after a long day of travel.
We had a great time. Alan and Dorita were great hosts. The food was amazing. The house isn't as nice as it is in pictures but you need to keep in mind it's Belize. There is no pool access but we did not miss it. Beach time was good. We had issues with the golfcarts but Alan was very good about providing a different one to use. I know others who have been to San Pedro and they also have had issues with golf carts. There was only one kayak, the other one had missing parts so we used as a paddle board. Even though things didn't always go as planned. It was a great time. I would totally recommend this place. Just keep in mind it's more rustic than it looks online.
This is the second time I have stayed at Escape Away and could not more highly recommend it! Alan and Dorita are amazing hosts. The food was fantastic and the ocean front is first rate.
The house is right on the beach with a great view of the water and the house is very well kept and homey feeling. Alan and Dorita are such an asset to the house!!! We had the best food prepared for us by Dorita it was amazing!!
We We
The facility was very comfortable and it was made even more enjoyable by Alan and his wife Dorita who did the fabulous cooking. The location was bout 30 minutes drive by golf cart from the airport with part of the road paved and part not with many potholes. It was quite and relaxing. We took a trip to Abergris Key about 30 years ago and had fond memories of how downtown San Pedro was small and quaint but tourism has hit the island and our new memories are not nearly as fond as the first. Bumper to bumper golf carts with less than optimal roads did not make travel pleasurable.
My friends and I recently spent 8 incredible days at Escape Away Harmony, and it was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we arrived, Dorita and Allen made us feel completely at home. Doritaâs meals were delicious and well-prepared, adding a delightful local flavor to our stay. Allen was equally fantastic, taking care of everything from bringing fresh coconuts to keeping the beach and outdoor spaces clean. He went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
Their two children were lovely and made the atmosphere even more welcoming. One of Allen's kids even took one of us fishing, which was such a memorable experience. The property was spotless, and every detail was thoughtfully managed.
If you're looking for a beautiful, friendly, and relaxing getaway, Escape Away Harmony is the perfect place. Highly recommended due to the awesome caretakers.
My Wife and I just left the Escape away âHarmony Beach Houseâ
This was a wonderful retreat away from the every day hustle and grind of work. We got lucky and had the best staff helping us out. Alin, Jhony, and Dorita became family by the end of it.
Dorita is one of the best cooks Iâve had, and she is better than just about every restaurant we ate at, on top of that Alin and Jhony gave us the lay of the land and the history of Belize.
I would 100% stay there again however there is no pool, and there is no satellite TV so if you are coming here for that I would still encourage you to do so but also go a short 5 min up the road to the Hidden Jewel Boutique hotel. Pool and bar are open to the public and was just the right amount of time we needed.
