Truth in advertising is lacking. Pros: a very nice host, a great location, and an artful "handcrafted vibe" with an adjacent courtyard. We felt welcomed with our petCons: One expects a bathroom. There isn't one. There is a wall not in the photo, along the bedside, that has a narrow sink, a narrow WC closet, and a small shower stall. If you are tall or have any physical restraints, it is difficult to go in, sit without leaving the door open at first, and rise without hand rails. No bending or elbows in the shower. Summer cooling was via a swamp cooler and fan, keeping it in range, but not able to reach where the bed is. Might be fine for some, but advance notice should be made.
Stayed for two nights. The property has charming decor and is comfortably laid out. It has everything you need. We enjoyed the common courtyard at night and in the morning. Our dog loved it. The host is engaging, informative and friendly but not overbearing in any way. Thank you Jim for a memorable stay.
The location was wonderful. We walked everywhere. The studio itself was great for us. We are outdoor people and the rustic, funky feel suited us quite well. The price of the rental was less than the other places we looked at, so we didnât expect a pristine and perfectly decorated place. We really liked it and will stay again. It is true that there are no large windows, but it is well insulated and really holds the heat if you visit in the early spring or fall.
I had a great time staying at this Adobe house in Sante Fe. The owner is very nice and he let me bring my dog. Sante Fe is a cool city, known for its Adobe style architecture, and staying here lets you experience that for yourself. The interior of this studio apartment / efficiency house is decorated with a neat New Mexico or Western theme. The kitchen is small though big enough for me to cook tasty meals. The bed is comfortable and I slept well. The location is good too. It was a short drive to many attractions within the city of Sante Fe. I recommend you stay here if you are a single person or a couple on vacation in Sante Fe.
Cool location, eclectic vibe and unique experience
Super easy directions to follow, the parking was right next to our place. Jim greeted us within a few minutes to see if we had any questions and told us that he built the place which was super impressive. It was a cool experience staying in an adobe house and there is so much art and metalwork to see on the intimate patio and inside. Visiting in June, we definitely needed the swamp cooler and fan during the day to help air circulation but it wasnât too hot but different than blasting a/c that we are use to in Texas. The utilities are there but it is not fancy, think of it as a bit of an adventure with the glass shower capsule (there is a curtain) and the toilet room is fairly small. The LOCATION is great, we walked everywhere to restaurants and bars and a dog park, Jim also gave us recommendations. Jim was wonderful and helpful, he checked in with us a couple of times during our stay to see if we needed anything. During the evening we sat on the patio and enjoyed listening to the birds and the light rain, that was lovely and peaceful. It was a unique experience and would stay again.
Not as up to date a reflected, Bathroom stall to small with two step process difficult. Dishes needed update and a little dirty, Stove looked overly spotty. Lights need improving.
This was the perfect place for me, my spouse and our puppy. Walking distance to the plaza, grocery store and dog park. Jim was an incredible host. He was so friendly and welcoming and gave us some great restaurant suggestions! Would definitely come stay again!
Walkable area a few blocks from the square. Studio with king size comfy bed and open seating space. Southwestern touches and small courtyard are nice. The toilet area would be tight for larger people. It's quiet and dogs are welcome with no additional deposit. Our only improvement comment is to clean to a higher standard. Dusty furniture, dirt under the bed and greasy stove top.
My wife and I are extremely tolerable of tiny quirks a rental home can have, and while we loved this stay, I do think some constructive criticism would help bring this home to an A+ in my books.
The good:
- Itâs coziness and proximity to downtown (we walked down there almost every day)
- Proximity to Darcy park for our pups
- The bed and pillows are super comfortable
- The lighting!
The needs improvement:
- My wife and myself slipped on the flooring many times and if someone who is a little less athletically inclined were to slip like we did, they could get seriously hurt, suggestion: to make it non-slip with some type of clear top coat.
- The shower doesn't drain and overflowed within an minute of showering, the door hardware was also broken, so it would fall off the glides
- The ANTS!!! I understand it is an old adobe mud home and seals may not be great, but there were so many ants in the kitchen and bathroom sink, even when no food was present.
- Change the listing to show "Share Amenities" means the backyard. We have reactive dogs and we thought from the photos we would be able to let our dogs out the door and hang out there off leash but there was a lot of in and outs by different people.
- The left front hot plate on the stove doesn't work
- The front door doesn't latch, only the deadbolt and when itâs windy it makes a banging
PS. Don't take these negatively, we loved it here, just need to do some upgrades/routine maintenance within the house.
The low rating reflects the fact that Evolve bungled the start date of the reservation. They confirmed for me that they had moved it up from 1/6/24 to 1/4/24, but they did not communicate that change to the property owner.
We enjoyed our stay. The property was walking distance to most areas in downtown Santa Fe, and away from the majority of the noise associated with downtown. We would recommend this property if you want a nice retreat while staying in Santa Fe.
This property is a gem. Built onto the adobe home dating back centuries, this studio, also of adobe, is comfortable and charming. Moreover the owner host Jim, a polymath artisan and musician raconteur, is available for any question. Highly recommended!
Wonderful courtyard and a little furniture re-arranging inside would make it more comfortable. Host was very un-imposing and interesting to visit with. We had a great time!
Cute casita with southwestern accents inside and outside in the courtyard that has everything you need. Great parking and absolutely AWESOME location. Easy walking distance to the Plaza, shops and restaurants. Jim was a great host!
