The loft was in an excellent location right on Bay Street in the middle of the historic district. We parked our car on Thursday afternoon in the Bryan Street garage only one block away and didnât move it until we left on Sunday morning. Savannah has a wonderful transportation system called DOT that is free. We also did loads of walking and always felt safe even at 10 oâclock at night. The only real complaint we had was not being aware that there are 20 steep steps when you enter off the street and no elevator. Being 70 and 71 years old it was a bit rough on our knees. I reread the listing to make sure I did not miss that it is not handicap assessable and found nowhere that it mentions it. Someone with a breathing or heart condition or handicap would not have been able to check in. Other than the stairs, we had a great four-day weekend. Savannah is a great place to visit.
The location was the best thing about this rental. We enjoyed walking the riverfront and the squares that are very close by. The listing was mostly accurate. We have lived in old historic buildings before and knew the quality to expect. However the floors in the apartment are very uneven and not level. The fixtures and tile in the bathroom were worn. Kitchen was minimally stocked compared to other Vrbos we stay in. Although there was notice about the early check in, we arrived 15 minutes early and had to stand in the hallway with luggage we had to haul from 2 blocks away due to parking limitations until the clock struck 4:00 sharp before the door locks activated. Felt like the recent Vrbo commercial that criticizes their competitor for this type of policy. We understand the need for check-in times but it seems like some sort of threshold would be appropriate and helpful. Responses to our messages to the owners felt impersonal and unhelpful. We are frequent renters of many Vrbos across the country and this rental was not of the quality of service we've come to count on with Vrbos.
The apt. was very clean, just some mold on the shower tile. Would be nice if the windows had blinds to go along with the curtains. The apt. is in a great location as all the bars, restaurants and historical attractions are within walking distance. We parked the car on Friday and did not use it until checkout on Monday. We planned to go to Tybee Island but did not because there was so much to do where we were. If walking isn't for you, I recommend the trolley ride as there are 14 stops from River St. to MLK. We will definitely plan a longer stay next visit so that we can do all that we planned and then some.
