Poor value

The Anantara is perched on top of Jabal Akhdar, a 35 minute drive up the Side of a mountain. I am a novice driver and didn't find it difficult, just utilise low gear and take your time. You won't hold anyone up as there is ample opportunity to overtake. We arrived and were greeted with complementary dates, Omani coffee and a refreshing lemongrass and pomegranate drink. The staff were all very friendly and eager to help when they could The grounds are spectacular, our canyon view room was beautiful. The view from the glass balcony was breathtaking and we were afforded the most magnificent view of the sun setting behind the mountains. The room was very well equipped and the bathroom exquisite. Now the negatives. The hotel is expensive. The room was dear enough, the transfers (although we didn't use them) are astronomically priced. For the 1 hour round trip from top to bottom, we were quoted 120 USD. If the price reflected quality it wouldn't be so bad. But that's not the case. The options at both Bella Vista and the main restaurant are nearly identical and rather limited for an upmarket resort. The service was slow, very slow. Our cold meze starters took 25 minutes to arrive. Our hot meze took half an hour and had been fried from frozen as the middle was still cold. I asked for my meat medium well, which one half was, but the other half was rather bloody. The staff apologised and offered me a replacement but by then you are so sick of waiting and annoyed by the fact you'
