The partition walls seem to me made from something that amplifies noise, not only I could hear what my neighbour was saying on the phone but also the replies. Someone went out and left a dog in a room which immediately started a long series of barks, howls and whines lasting into the early hours and expressing a cycle of annoyance, anger, fear, loneliness, anguish and despair. Plus, no breakfast, a sneaky trick to play on someone who doesn't read the small print.
Adriana sent me a text message & a email at 08.31 am on 06/09 with some important information of me staying at there accommodation. My room & ensuite was at an excellent cleaning standard. There was a folder in my room,I read this important information inside this folder. I couldn't find out what time breakfast started. There was a room in the lounge area on the door it said breakfast room. On 07/09 I went downstairs to the lounge area at 08.10 am the breakfast room door was locked which I thought was strange, I waited in the lounge area for 20 minutes than went back to my room to get ready to start my day. The next two mornings I never went down to the lounge area but I did check the breakfast room door as I was leaving the door was locked. There was no communication at all about breakfast if they don't do breakfast than PLEASE let the guests know in advance. They put in the text message & email I had sent me if have any Questions please ring this number & we will be happy to help, due to me struggling with my confidence & mild depression i never phoned them . I never seen any members of staff in the 3 days I stayed there. This accommodation wasn't for me, what works for you doesn't work for another. I was relieved to leave on 09/09 . No I won't be staying at Carlton house again
We knew from the start it was a budget b&b but was not quite expecting it to be quite a bad as it was. Our room was changed before we arrived for some reason, the room was a small double but was more like half a room as it was part of the slanting roof. The room smelt like stagmant pond water from the drainage in the bathroom and there were dog hairs on the bedding. Needless to say we will be giving it a miss from now on. Was very disappointing after reading previous reviews.
Please take into account that this rating is given due to particular circumstances. If thing had been different we likely would have rated much higher.
The room we originally booked is listed as a cheaper room and that has to be taken into account. However it was unbearably hot the day we were there and we literally had to damp our skin all night and have a fan blowing over us to keep cool enough. On top of the first issue the shower in the room was useless, the amount of water was just a slight trickle and my wife was unable to wash her hair at all. It took me a long time to wash off the shower gel because it as so poor.
The morning after the first night I called the help number to say there were a few issues we needed resolving and after telling them the about the heating of the room they stated, there is nothing we can do about that, it's a 3rd floor room at a budget "next" I told them this was simply unacceptable and told them about the shower. They again dismissed this issue stating it was an old building and they can't do anything about it. I told them there are minimum expectations despite it being a budget room and over and over I was told they could do nothing about it. I eventually asked about a refund and very quickly after I was offered a change of room one floor down. This room was much better and cooler and the shower was usable (still not great)
There is more to say but I don't have enough space, after the problems 3-4 stars.
The hotel is ideally situated near to the spa. Parking wasn’t a problem and the hotel sorted us out with permits needed at a small extra cost. The staff are great, really friendly and were always there to make sure we had everything we needed. The room itself was lovely, we stayed in room 18 and we couldn’t fault it. Spacious, clean, the bathroom was clean and modern, the room has a fridge in so you can keep milk etc in your room . There were loads of teabags which is a big plus for myself and it was Yorkshire tea so they didn’t scrimp on them. The room is well thought out with enough sockets in there and situated where you want them. We had a room at the back of our bed where you could hang your clothes and the missus even had a dresser to get ready with a mirror etc. We had a hearty breakfast in the morning plus there are cereal’s and yoghurt’s if you want them. I would recommend this hotel to anybody and would love to stay again.
Excellent hotel 10mins from the train station.lots of good bars and restaurants.highly recommend.wpukd stay again ,caught the bus to Whitby about an hour away .
