Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
My stay at Hive Hotel was workable, but I would mainly recommend it to experienced travellers who are comfortable with self-service accommodation.
Arrival was confusing. It was not obvious that check-in was entirely self-service, so I initially bypassed the check-in area. When I reached my first-floor room, the door was already unlocked. Opening it triggered an alarm, leaving me unsure whether I had entered correctly. I later completed the electronic check-in and received my room card.
The room itself is extremely small and somewhat claustrophobic. The bathroom is essentially a wet room, with the entire washroom functioning as the shower. The towels are also very small. Be careful with the shower controls: I accidentally left it switched to the shower setting, and when I turned on the water, it sprayed toward the bed and soaked it.
Cleanliness was another concern. The bathroom had clearly not been thoroughly cleaned, as I found used Q-tips on the floor from the previous guest.
On the positive side, the air conditioning worked well, the room was cool, and it was quiet.
The biggest issue is that there are effectively no staff on-site to assist with questions or problems. Everything is electronic and self-service. If you are comfortable troubleshooting things yourself, it may be adequate. Otherwise, particularly for first-time visitors to Seoul, I would recommend staying elsewhere.
