This place was pretty awesome, this is the first hostel (ish) place Ive stayed at in the U.S. and they nailed it w all the right vibes. We actually stayed in the private room (fire room?) The staff (patrick?) Was increadibly kind and knowledgeable.
Our room was lovely, many unique furniture pieces. The common areas are wonderful, group seating, games, musical instruments. We will be back for a linger stay later this fall.
It was easy to check in, but difficult getting up 3 stair flights..very clean and retro, nice big room, big bathroom, great WiFi so I could work, affordable
This is a historic hotel, but not maintained. The picture on the hotel. Com site is not like it appears now. Itâs dark , dingy, in lobby. dirty carpet in room, no window treatments, window wonât close. Only met one staff at check-in, and desk was an old bar. Very disappointed and only stayed one of the two nights I payed for, and cost was overpriced for the accommodations, and lacked amenities.
Room is clean and property is unique. This is our second time staying here. Went with a room with shared bathroom this time. No concerns about shared bathroom as there are multiple bathrooms available. Love that everyone is on a different kind of adventure. Great option for the adventurous traveler. Dog friendly and plenty of parking options if bring your off-road vehicles.
This is an historic property in the historic town of Silverton Colorado. We felt our stay was outstanding! Our room and bath were immaculate. The bedding was very comfortable. We especially appreciated the lobby and furnished bar area. While the hotel does not serve alcohol, guests are welcome to sit in the bar area and visit, watch TV and play games. A full commercial kitchen is also available for guests to use. The Avon is dog-friendly, and our pooch enjoyed meeting the other well-behaved pups. We had a great visit and appreciated the welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely return.
I want to like the Avon but not the best experience. My wife booked a room for me while I was bike packing the Colorado Trail. She was told I would receive instructions on how to check in - I never got a text or email. Walked in to the lobby and there were multiple people all standing behind the main bar - which looked like a reception desk. After being ignored I finally noticed a small picture frame with a phone number and overheard another guest on his phone trying to figure out how to check in. After hearing him I realized the key was in a box behind the counter. I also then realized no one was actually working there. I guess the bar and kitchen is free range for guest - but since I never received any communication from the Avon I had no idea. The room was also a disappointment. Described as the Fire Suite with a king and queen - we needed two beds so that's what she booked. The queen ended up being a mattress on the floor, up a steep ladder in a loft with about 4 feet of headroom. Its a cool building with tons of history in a good location. Just not so great service from the owners.
I was adventuring solo for a few days and stayed in the 3-bed hostel room at the Avon. The room was small but the bed was comfy, the amenities were nice (i.e. towels and toiletries in the bathroom), and the staff was welcoming and helpful. It is a funky, cozy, old-timey spot in the mountains, with a covered porch with rocking chairs so you can sit outside and look at the mountains winding down after a day of hiking or having your morning coffee. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks to Pat for all the help making this a great mini-vacation!
