I thought the house was very charming. My husband loved that he could make a cup of coffee and go straight outside and do a little fishing. If I could suggest anything to improve the stay, it would be having at least one king sized bed in the house and the shower needs a little work.

Beautiful Cottage in the Marsh

We enjoyed our stay at the Shire. While not exactly as pictured, it’s a bit older than it looks in the pic specifically the bottom bedroom and half bath which is actually In a laundry room, it is still a great place to stay and the dock into the marsh cannot be beat. Would stay again.

Great Location, Okay experience

The location of the property is its best selling point. Unfortunately the home feels unmaintained, and not very comfortable. The AC only has one zone, so your left with a downstairs that is too cold, or an upstairs that is too hot. The exterior door is very difficult to open and close and does not seal to the outside. This left space for bugs to be inside which isn't all that appealing. The exterior chairs and cushions were dirty and old, the one metal chair on the dock was rusting with pealing paint.

We loved The Shire

This little home is absolutely perfect, it sits on a gorgeous piece of property, we loved sitting out watching the sunset, bird and using the fishing poles to see if we could catch a fish. We walked to the beach every day and had a quick drive into downtown to walk around. The decor is cute and just perfect. Great spot and highly recommend! This place is a gem!

Amazing!

The location was amazing! It was private and peaceful and the views were incredible! The house was very comfortable and cozy and had all the amenities you need! The dock was a great place to fish and just sit and relax and enjoy the sunsets. The host was very responsive during our stay! It was convenient to the beach and St. Augustine. One of the most relaxing vacations, we will definitely be back!

A dream!!!

This VRBO is absolutely stunning. We woke up every morning feeling like we were in another country, a European oasis. The hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful while booking. The decor was top notch, crisp and classy. The artistry and thought that was put into this house is evident. Enjoy sunsets, drinks on the private dock OR balcony, comfy furniture, long walks on the beach, a quiet street, and a kitchen filled with all the necessary tools for a home cook meal. We never turned on the TV because the Shire’s ambiance, our company, and calm Alexa music throughout the house was enough. Every evening we looked forward to coming “home” after exploring St. Aug. Could not recommend this magical VRBO enough!! Thank you so much to our generous hosts!

Beautiful!

We got the opportunity to stay at the Shire and were thrilled! I’ve watched the Shire get rebuilt following along on Instagram and we jumped at the idea of booking! The dock of the back had great fishing! We got shrimp from a local bait place by the pier. Food recommendations were amazing. The short walk to the beach was perfect, we went frequently. Such a beautiful spot to stay! We will definitely stay again!

Peaceful & Beautiful

We had a wonderful stay at The Shire. I’ve been following Jess for a few years now and have always admired The Shire. We only live about 2 hours away so decided to book for a couple of days. I wish we had stayed longer. Our weather was lousy and we wished we could of enjoyed the rooftop and the dock more but the views while sitting inside looking out is beautiful and relaxing. We did enjoy our 1st night in the jacuzzi though. We also drove to downtown St Augustine and had dinners at River & Fort and Casa Reina. Both places did not disappoint!!! Thanks for having us at your beautiful rental.

Perfect get-away

My wife followed the revitalization of this property from the first days, so I decided we should stay here for our anniversary. It was nothing short of fabulous ! The home is super cute and super cozy. The beautiful beach is steps away and incredibly private. If you tire of the beach, the hot tub in the backyard will call your name. Don't hesitate...book this place now !!!

What a gem

This property was a little slice of heaven! It’s so adorable and the marsh is beautiful. Can see lots of sunsets from the dock. The host responded quickly with anything we needed. Would definitely recommend!

Great house, Perfect location

When searching for a place to spend our 25th anniversary we settled on the St Augustine area because we had never been there. I found this property and it looked like the perfect place to stay. I was right. Couldn't have asked for a nicer place or location. The house renovation was done very well. The decor was beautiful. The location was perfect. We were just a few minutes walk to a great beach that was very private. Never crowded at all. We were just a few minutes drive to all that downtown had to offer. The outdoors of the property was very nice and the pier was great. My husband actually caught a good size drum one morning. We also had a manatee visit 2 days in a row. If you want a peaceful place to stay that is nice, clean, private but easily accessible to all the area has to offer this is the place. If it is available during your requested days don't hesitate to book. You won't be disappointed. I hope this property stays on VRBO for a long time because we already want to go back on our 30th!!

Unforgettable!

This older home has been recently renovated to make one feel as if they are in a new home. The furnishings are elegantly simple and extremely comfortable to and including the beds. The home is small but the views are large and if nature enlivens you then this is the place for that! The appliances in the kitchen are top of the line. The kitchen could benefit from a bit more storage cabinetry, but it is so pleasant to work in because of the large windows. The living room had large windows that allow us to connect to nature even if it was too cold and rainy to be outside. The master bath room was roomy and beautifully redone, however it could have benefitted from towel hooks next to the sink and two more on the wall. These two complaints are minor in comparison with the overall beauty of the interior. The setting of this little Spanish villa was the best part. There were beautifully shaped trees on the property and a play area for children. We enjoyed coffee in the morning on the upper deck and lunch on the dock. From the upper patio as well as the dock you can view both sunsets and sunrises. The bird life is mesmerizing as are the tides in the marsh. Nearby (5 min. drive) is the GTM Research Reserve where you can take hike or bike on flat terrain through pristine Florida forests and fresh water marshes ranging from .3 miles to 5+ miles. The owners provided lovely amenities like chocolate ice cream in the freezer and fresh coffee for the machine and "Shire" cups to take home. The "Shire" is a great place to get away from it all and reconnect with nature. We definitely plan on returning.

A charming taste of historic Florida

This truly unique property will leave you inspired. It was a wonderful spot for our family of four's very first trip to the northeastern Florida coastline. The Shire's original features and Spanish style perfectly capture the feel of St. Augustine. There's no better place to watch the sun rise and set than from The Shire's large sparkling hot tub. The neighbors couldn't have been nicer and we enjoyed meeting all their dogs on our walks to the "sugar sand" beach. The neighborhood is very quiet and all you can hear in the distance is the sound of waves crashing on the beach and numerous singing birds. The road between the home and the beach is quite busy, but we never heard any traffic noise. The hosts provided a lovely welcome and provided some fun outdoor toys. Our boys loved fishing off the dock and watching the dramatic tide changes. We miss it already and fell in love with the coast!

Great honeymoon rental

I feel like every square inch of the property was designed with guest experience in mind. From the decor, functional spaces, and layout of furniture this place was awesome. Very relaxing and awesome that it’s a close drive to down town St. Augustine. My wife and I had an incredible honeymoon. Fishing every morning, the natural sunlight waking us up charged me up. I would recommend this over any resort stay. Thanks!

Perfect girls weekend

The Shire is overflowing with old world charm, the captivating peace of the marsh views, the calming sound of the ocean, and all the modern comforts of home. Jess did a wonderful job renovating and decorating this property. Simple, clean and classic design. The lighted rooftop terrace was a gorgeous setting for morning coffee or nighttime cocktails and don’t forget to pack a suit for the hot tub! The kitchen is well equipped and the grocery is only a mile away. The size of the house worked very well for our sisters weekend with only two of us. I think two couples or a small family would also be comfortable in the space. They even have a few fun surprises for the kids with a small basket of toys, a swing, a zip line, skate boards, and a fishing pole! The ocean is only a short walk down the street with a beautiful beach. The compact sand is perfect for long walks or runs. They have two beach chairs that would be easy to carry with you. If you have never visited St.Augustine before, you are in for a treat! Downtown is only a few miles away and Jess has left some great suggestions in the welcome book for you. Attractions, great food, a local winery, history, Spanish architecture, and shopping. There are also outlet shops about 15 minutes away.

The property was spotless, comfortable and location was great! The finishes on this house easily make it feel like home. It has everything you need for a comfortable vacation and I cannot say enough great things about the host! My husband and I had the most wonderful stay and we hope to return!
